“Good Hotel, Good views, indifferent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Arriving at the hotel late at night didnt really do it justice for the views that were available. We were given a room on 51st floor with 2 bedrooms but only one bathroom which was a little inconvienient. The receptionists were generally very helpful with the exception of a couple of them, however this was fine. The hotel is very central and has some good bars and restuarants nearby as well as a 24 hour shop.
For the views and the cleanliness I would definately stay again if back in Brisbane.

“Good hotel in good location for work”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

A good choice for business stays. I paid around $180 per night and my room had everything that I needed from it.

Lots of room and all appliances seemed quite new and well looked after.

Gym could be a little bigger, but fine if you want to do a work out.

Overall a great stay - much better than two other similar properties I have stayed at in the area.

“What an absolute disgrace....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed here one night to attend a black tie wedding at the Cathedral & Customs House. What an absolute disgrace, how dare they take $213 of my hard earned money and present us with this pigsty. On entering Room 181 firstly the odour of cooked grease & hundreds of marks on the paint where the walls had been obviously wiped down. Carpet was flithy & stained. Bedroom door had paint missing and bed was an ensemble with bare base showing. Bathroom was mouldy. Kitchen bench had been wiped over and the grease just spread around. Coffee cups dirty. Oven and hotplates dirty. Kitchen floor disgusting with large grease mark on floor in front of the sink.(photo) Airconditioning vent black, cobwebs on the ceiling, lipstick on one couch, the other the stuffing was falling out of the seat. Dust & fingerprints on tv and tv unit. But the worst was yet to come. I cannot describe the disgusting state of the dining room chairs(see photos). The fabric was worn through & flaking off the top of EVERY chair. All the windows were flithy. The outdoor setting (see photo) originally white was covered in black mould and under the glass top was just dirt and rust. Of course we complained , the staff were very apologetic and were given another room on another floor & free parking which was acceptable but even this room was still a bit shabby round the edges. We were told by staff that the apartments are individually owned and they don't check them? Are they serious? Surely they would require a minimum standard to charge this amount of money? I have travelled around the world and this was the worst room I have ever seen. I would not even stay there if it was free. They charge a bond on your credit card "in case you wreck the place" ha ha what a joke. This has upset me so much I intend to also complain directly to the Oaks. Lift your game people, and don't insult customers with this rubbish. I will be telling EVERYONE I know about this place.

Room Tip: Do not stay here

“Stay elsewhere - Much better options”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Because this is a mixture of residential & rented apartments it just doesn't work as a hotel.
Security is brilliant but a pain.
Parking is hard work
The lifts are a disaster.
Checkout is 10.00 am, 10.00am !! haven't the Oaks management heard the term hospitality industry
No wifi
Air con had a mind of its own
The carpets in some rooms look worse than those in student flats.
It is true that if u get a river view & if I get a glass balustrade rather than concrete then the views are great but there are so many other downsides I would just go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere!

“Could be so much better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

It is disappointing that this place has so many problems as it has such great potential, but not to be

My stay consisted of a total of 6 nights, four in a two bedroom apartment with a friend of mine and 2 in a one bedroom after he left. The first big problem with this building is the elevators (I think there were only 5 but there may have been 6) either way there was no thought put into this during construction. Making this worse was the fact that two of them were out of order during my stay making a bad situation terrible. Usually in a building this size you would have 4-5 elevators servicing the bottom half of the building and another 4-5 serving the top half. Well not this building, every elevator goes to all 67 floors. This makes for a very long wait to get up to or leave your room. Good luck if you are trying to get out of the building between 7-9 when most people are trying to get to work ( A lot of these apartments are lived in by residence) One morning when trying to leave at about 8am I waited for over 15 mins as elevator after elevator came down totally full from the upper floors.

Continuing with the no thought into the design concept there is no drop off area at the front of the building for a cab or friends to drop you off. You have to go around to the back ally and enter the parking area then take the elevator down to the lobby from the 1st floor, which as mentioned earlier you could be waiting for for quite some time (for some reason no one thought to put a set of stairs between these two areas which would have been extremely easy to do).

As far as the rooms go they are ok, starting to look a little tired and maintenance needs to be improved big time. The first room we checked into had several problems; none of the drains in the bathrooms drained properly. They would fill with water quickly and then take several minutes to drain. This is obviously because they are full of hair etc, an easy fix so IDK why they have let it get that far. In this particular room the A/C made a terrible buzzing sound every-time it turned on leading to almost no sleep that first night. The next day I talked to the staff about it. They informed me that there was no maintenance during the weekend so these would not be fixed (not really sure what is suppose to happen should any major problems that occur on a Sat/Sun). I asked to be moved to another room due to this which they did however the drainage issue where again a problem in that apartment.

Once it was time to move to the one bedroom apt I was informed that it would not be ready till 3/4 pm. I advised that this would not be acceptable as checkout time was 10am. (not sure what they expected me to do for a 5-6 hour period) I asked them to assign me to a different one bedroom or allow to remain in the current apt. They advised me that I could remain in the current apt however that day no servicing of the apt was performed. I called the front desk at about 2pm to advise of this. The reply I received was that housekeeping had not received the update about me staying in the room and has left for the day so there was nothing they could do but give me some towels. This didn't really make much sense to me as I would assume that the room would be cleaned after I had checked for the next guest so what does not receiving the update have to do with it ???

There are plenty of other problems I could talk about but that should provide you with enough reasons not to stay already. There are some positives to be as objective as possible. Both rooms I was in although not on high floors offered good views of the river and Story bridge. It is pretty well located to the Queens St Mall and Eagle St pier area. One last important thing, this complex offers very little internet options. I would have expected at the minimum Wi-Fi for purchase if not free. The only option they offer is a wired connection and it is rather expensive. With so many people traveling with tablets/Ipads rather then traditional laptops this is a stupid oversight on management's part.

I will not stay here on my next trip, in fact I will most likely avoid staying at any Oaks group apt out of concern they are all run in such a manner. I will try to stay a Merriton apt. I stayed at one in Syd on the same trip, it had its problems but no where near the problems with Aurora

Room Tip: Don't stay here
