It is disappointing that this place has so many problems as it has such great potential, but not to be
My stay consisted of a total of 6 nights, four in a two bedroom apartment with a friend of mine and 2 in a one bedroom after he left. The first big problem with this building is the elevators (I think there were only 5 but there may have been 6) either way there was no thought put into this during construction. Making this worse was the fact that two of them were out of order during my stay making a bad situation terrible. Usually in a building this size you would have 4-5 elevators servicing the bottom half of the building and another 4-5 serving the top half. Well not this building, every elevator goes to all 67 floors. This makes for a very long wait to get up to or leave your room. Good luck if you are trying to get out of the building between 7-9 when most people are trying to get to work ( A lot of these apartments are lived in by residence) One morning when trying to leave at about 8am I waited for over 15 mins as elevator after elevator came down totally full from the upper floors.
Continuing with the no thought into the design concept there is no drop off area at the front of the building for a cab or friends to drop you off. You have to go around to the back ally and enter the parking area then take the elevator down to the lobby from the 1st floor, which as mentioned earlier you could be waiting for for quite some time (for some reason no one thought to put a set of stairs between these two areas which would have been extremely easy to do).
As far as the rooms go they are ok, starting to look a little tired and maintenance needs to be improved big time. The first room we checked into had several problems; none of the drains in the bathrooms drained properly. They would fill with water quickly and then take several minutes to drain. This is obviously because they are full of hair etc, an easy fix so IDK why they have let it get that far. In this particular room the A/C made a terrible buzzing sound every-time it turned on leading to almost no sleep that first night. The next day I talked to the staff about it. They informed me that there was no maintenance during the weekend so these would not be fixed (not really sure what is suppose to happen should any major problems that occur on a Sat/Sun). I asked to be moved to another room due to this which they did however the drainage issue where again a problem in that apartment.
Once it was time to move to the one bedroom apt I was informed that it would not be ready till 3/4 pm. I advised that this would not be acceptable as checkout time was 10am. (not sure what they expected me to do for a 5-6 hour period) I asked them to assign me to a different one bedroom or allow to remain in the current apt. They advised me that I could remain in the current apt however that day no servicing of the apt was performed. I called the front desk at about 2pm to advise of this. The reply I received was that housekeeping had not received the update about me staying in the room and has left for the day so there was nothing they could do but give me some towels. This didn't really make much sense to me as I would assume that the room would be cleaned after I had checked for the next guest so what does not receiving the update have to do with it ???
There are plenty of other problems I could talk about but that should provide you with enough reasons not to stay already. There are some positives to be as objective as possible. Both rooms I was in although not on high floors offered good views of the river and Story bridge. It is pretty well located to the Queens St Mall and Eagle St pier area. One last important thing, this complex offers very little internet options. I would have expected at the minimum Wi-Fi for purchase if not free. The only option they offer is a wired connection and it is rather expensive. With so many people traveling with tablets/Ipads rather then traditional laptops this is a stupid oversight on management's part.
I will not stay here on my next trip, in fact I will most likely avoid staying at any Oaks group apt out of concern they are all run in such a manner. I will try to stay a Merriton apt. I stayed at one in Syd on the same trip, it had its problems but no where near the problems with Aurora
Room Tip: Don't stay here
