LOCATION: The Crowne Plaza Darwin was a ten minute ride from the airport. Centrally located on Mitchell Street where many of Darwin’s restaurants and pubs could be found. A hotel valet parking cost 25 AUD per day. Very friendly and helpful valet staff.
HOTEL: Super courteous front desk staff provided efficient check-in and check-out. A room on the 17th floor facing Mitchell Street had a nice view of Port Darwin, but could be a bit noisy especially on Friday and Saturday nights. (The Outback Jacks Bar & Grill was located next to the hotel and further down the street there was a pub with open air seating facing the street.) The room was bright and clean. The beds were surprisingly hard and the pillows were foamy and clumpy. The shower provided low water pressure.
CONCLUSION: Yes, it was a bit noisy. Yes, the beds were hard and the pillows were scandalously bad for your neck and sleep, not to mention the low pressure shower. Against all odds, the Crowne Plaza Darwin still gets a good review due to its impressive asset: the very courteous and skilful staff.
