“Nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We stayed for a few nights at double bed room, just at the beginning of our travel in North&West Australia. So maybe it was the change of climate and jet-lag, that we weren't very pleased with this hostel.
The room was small, with ugly, broken furniture and dirty curtains. The window faced the common area outside, so we heard all the conversations in the middle of the night (and morning) from our fellow travelers. We had a small fridge in the room, which was a big plus!
Toilets and showers were outside (which is OK) and should be cleaned more often, also a bit of plumbing work should be done.
Breakfast was nice, with fresh fruit an a lot of spreads, cereals, tea, coffee, milk etc. Lots of kitchen utensils which were a bit worn, dish towels dirty.
The staff was friendly and helpful, we could book all the tours from the front desk.
Location of the hostel is excellent, at the beginning of Mitchell Street, on the edge of the centre.

Since Darwin isn't very big, I was surprised at the number of hostels and I think it's not hard to find a better one than Dingo Moon Lodge.

Room Tip: Don't choose the room which faces he common area (get's loud at night)

“Brilliant place to stay in Darwin, clean, relaxed with free breakfast!”

Brilliant hostel, on Mitchell street but at the top end 5 -10 minute walk to main to bars and restaurants so not too loud and very relaxed. Close to all attractions. Fairly secure the gate was locked at 8.30pm every night.

Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Good free facilities - i.e. free breakfast, free laundry and swimming pool were fantastic additions. Internet facilities and wi-fi were very good and fast and reasonably priced.

Breakfast from 7 - 9am was good and lots of choice, teas, coffee, juice, toast, cereals, fruit, croissants, jams, spreads and the nuttella was very popular! you could eat as much as you wanted.

Kitchen was well equipped and you didn't have to pay for cutlery or utensils like Chilli's and Melaleuca down the road. But did get a bit busy which is expected in a hostel. Dish cloths and tea towels looked a bit manky would have been good if they were changed a bit more but I guess it can't be helped if everyone else is using them too.

Rooms were clean, bedding was clean and beds comfortable. Every room had air con and ceiling fans that worked a treat and able to sleep comfortably. Other back packers there seemed friendly enough and respectful to others, no loud parties (while I was there) and people in my room went to bed at reasonable times and were quiet. Everyone sits round the pool in the evenings having dinner and chatting or swimming well into the evening but not raucous.

Shared showers and toilet facilities were clean and adequate although they were outside and faced the pool but it's not a problem. Only 2 showers but I never had to wait long to use them and the water was always hot.

Really enjoyed my stay would definitely go back and stay longer and would recommend to anyone visiting Darwin

“Pleasant stay with amazing breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Central location in Mitchell Street, just a few minutes walk to the busy part but far enough away that the hostel was quiet in the evenings. The breakfast was amazing for a backpackers, cereals, toast, juice and there were even croissants and nutella! Staff were friendly and knowledgable about Darwin and helped book tours to Litchfield and Kakadu with the best rates! Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: 4 bed dorm was worth the few dollars extra

“Very dirty hostel with the worst kind of people”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Dingo Moon havent got much going for it. It's very dirty and the long time residents are the worst kind of backpackers - loud and drunken 18 year olds with no respect whatsoever for anyone. They throw around bag in boxes of wine in the pool, drop bottles and glasses of beer in it and splash everyone within 15 yards of the pool. The worst thing about it is that 2/4 girls of the staff often join in behind the managers back, giving the pathetic teen guys a free leeway to do what they want. These staff members are more like groupies than actual staff.
The showers are filthy and look more like dirty rest stop toilets. In fact, the entire hostel smells of urine and worse.
If you enjoy mold, urine and unfriendly people - this is the place for you, if not - go somewhere else!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

“A good option in Darwin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

I had a pleasant stay at the Dingo Moon. It was clean, safe, in a central location, and has all the amenities. The property is well-kept and the vibe is friendly. Free laundry is a plus. Kitchen is well-equipped. It's surprisingly quiet for being so close to Mitchell Street, but still social with a nice pool in back.

There are some pretty vile hostels in this town, and I was relieved to find one that is run well.
