Have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 2 years. It is a great hotel for airport stop-overs. The airport pick up is a plus, as is free internet and the pool. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and efficient. However it is no long as cheap as it previously was and I have started staying at other airport hotels which give cheaper or similar rates with more facilities.
The two downsides of the hotel are that it is not near anything and so you need to use transport to get around (unless you want to walk for 20 minutes to get to Casurina which can be good too). The second thing is there is no real restaurant - there is a kitchen but not meals as far as I am aware. There is a club next door but it isn't where I would choose to eat.
This hotel runs a very convenient free shuttle to and from the airport. The rooms are fine. It was 86 degrees when we arrived and it took the a/c 2 hours to cool the not huge room down. The hotel includes a continental breakfast - but you need to order it the night before, so remember to do so when you check in. (The first time we were there the desk clerk forgot to ask us - but they made it up to us the second time.) You can't beat the location and the desk clerk was very helpful with driving directions and suggestions for where to have dinner.
My partner and I stayed at the Best Western in November, we were booked in by his employer so had no say in where we stayed for a brief visit to Darwin.
The Best Western is a good 10 minute drive from Darwin City, the rooms were very comfortable, clean and nice beds, good pool area. The staff are super friendly and happy to help. The hotel next door is very convenient for lunch or evening meals and reasonably priced.
It is the perfect place to stay if you are travelling through Darwin, with free shuttle service to and from the airport, however a car is needed if you want to have a look around Darwin.
This motel was surprisingly good. A quick phone call at the airport and they lady picks you up in the toyota tarago for a 5minutes drive to the motel.
The room was smaller than Rydges hotel but bed more comfy here i felt. Bathroom slightly smaller but decent and clean enough. Our room was on 1st floor facing the swimming pool. I must say i was surprised with the pool, it was exceptionally clean and a decent size for a motel. Pub next door like people previously mentioned is good value for money. You get a special entrance from the motel carpark to pub... just use your room key to open the gate... apart from the pub there is a thirsty camel, lol...
If this motel is cheaper than rydges then id definately go with this option... probably better on all fronts except for location to airport but that doesn't really matter either if you are well organized. We checked into this motel at 430am and had to pay $50 for early check-in but we were so buggered we paid it and slept until early arvo.
