“Room Infested With Roaches”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

Our high school group stayed here two nights as part of a 2-week self-booked tour of Australia and New Zealand. On the plus side, the owner gave us a discount on our four rooms (in exchange for no maid service), and the location was convenient.
The rooms, however, (particularly the shower floors) were not so clean. Three of our female students stayed in room 5 on the ground floor. On the second night, they showed me a couple of roaches in their room. I killed one while the manager provided a can of ant spray (which had no effect on the roaches). Totally apathetic to the problem, the manager then ducked into his office/residence and turned the light off! I found many more roaches hiding in crevices in the room, and the girls chose to sit in the parking lot all night, too traumatized to go into the room again. I was on-hand and witnessed all of these events that I have described, and in our years of conducting trips for students, we have never run into such a terrible situation at any hotel. Had the hotel management made some effort to resolve the problem for us, this review would have been much more favorable.
The encounter with roaches was bad, of course, but the manager's impatience and apathy made this hotel a truly awful experience for our group.

Room Tip: Better to pay more and stay somewhere else.

“Bit outdated and a bit too pricey, but nice location and staff.”

Stayed there a couple of nights on the way back to Melbourne from Bali.

First impression was that the room was a bit small, but neat and not the worst place I've stayed for sure. Toilet itself was outdated, so as the aircon and tv, but everything works which was great.

The location was actually very good. Very ideal i reckon! From the way I planned it, it was actually walking distance to both Mindil Beach (20 mins walk) and Parap (10 mins walk) markets. Right in front has a bus where one end goes to the Darwin city, and the other end is Casuarina shopping centre. So actually few choices there if you dont intend to visit the touristy stuff in Darwin. Its actually also right on the Fannie Beach area so took a nice jog to the War museum (about 3.5 kms each way) along the beach and the bach view was excellent (just watchout for the heat and humidity of Darwin of course).

Swimming pool is more just like a splash pool.

They did offer wireless internet, but found it not too reliable. But they do offer PC net and printing services during office hours.

Staff, Rebecca and John were very helpful. Chekin/Checkout no fuss. While they are strict with the office hours , etc , they were very kind to offer me a "half" day rent as my fishing trip got cancelled. So while i would have waited plenty of hours at the airport, i managed to get the room to relax. Thanks.

Overall, I would recommend this for people who are not looking for luxury accomodation.

Room Tip: Do not hang the clothes outside the rail guards of your room. Couple of my clothes got stolen. They...

Hi, just wanted to say what a fantastic time my family and I had staying at the Capricornia Motel, Fanny Bay, Darwin, fresh, clean rooms, sparkling pool, washing machines and dryers (so important with 3 children and a husband), great location, walking distance to city, ocean and yacht club. Great management team, no problem too great for those girls and guys (booking tours, making us aware of all the fun things to do and see whilst in Darwin. Well done Capricornia. We will back. A huge thank you for making our 2 week stay in Darwin so enjoyable.

Christina and family.
