Hotels tend to be pricey in Darwin. So the Paravista is a good budget option.. It is located about 3km from the centre in a quiet street close to the Stuart Highway, and a short walk to Parap Shopping Village where there are Restaurants and Takeaways. The hotel is fairly old and a little run down, but the rooms are clean and well equiped with fridge, television, air-con, fan, and allegedly free high speed wireless internet.
One gripe. I specifically requested a room with a good wireless internet signal, because I wanted to do on-line checkin for a flight the next day. This obviously fell on deaf ears because, unless no rooms have a reasonable signal, the strength was too weak to be able to do anything significant. I ended up having to sit on a chair in the small reception area, where the signal was strong but surrounded by people coming and going, which was very inconvenient.
Nonetheless if you can get a good price, the Paravista is a good budget option for a short stay in Darwin.
