Longitude 131, a Voyagers resort in the Centre overlooking Uluru, is a truly spectacular place to stay - but our stay there was spectacularly disappointing.

Why? Well, even though we were there for three nights, they “rotate” the nights that they do Table 131 (the "dining under the stars" experience). That is: on one night dinner is served in the Dune House; on the next, you eat al fresco at Table 131 (and so forth).

And the night we should have been eating out under the stars it became windy – and Table 131 was cancelled.

Now, if we had been told about this “rotation” arrangement when we booked, we would have timed our visit so we could have had two nights at Table 131 (and/or minimised our chances of missing out all together).

Worse – and even though they acknowledged that we should have been told about their “rotation” policy – management would not even consider rescheduling Table 131 for the following night. Their reasoning: the guests who were only there for two nights would “miss out” on the “experience” of dining in the Dune House. Lame.

So, even though the place was beautiful and, in all other respects we had a good time, the lack of flexibility/customer focus was a huge disappointment. Especially at those prices. I couldn't recommend the place, unless there has been a serious attitude change…..

Stayed at Longitude 131 On September/October 2007 and found the setting breathtaking. We were met at the airport and quickly transported to the resort were you are checked in immediately. Upon arriving we were shuttled off on a tour and did not have much time to enjoy the room.

About the room; one of the best rooms I have ever experienced. Brilliant design . Wonderful desert light filters through the canvas of the "tents". Stocked with goodies, drinks and ample amenities. Tasteful decor and high end finishes

Tours were average. One cannot improve on the setting but I think the guides were either brand new and still learning the ropes or burned out from being in the "middle of nowhere. " I suspect it is difficult to recruit experienced people to a remote locale for any length of time and have a cheerful disposition day in and day out. The tours are scheduled back to back and during our two day stay, there was not a lot of down time to enjoy the room and setting.

Service was just OK. Not rude, not bad but indifferent and unfocused. For the price point I felt the service should have been a bit more polished.

This was our second visit to Uluru. We stayed at Sails in the Desert in 2004, wanted to come back and take in more of the spectacular scenery and hike. Our hiking needs were more than fulfilled with the many tours. Two days and two nights was enough to satisfy our need to return.

I have been told that since we stayed at Longitude 131 there has been a change in the management so perhaps the service will improve.

We absolutely loved Longitude. Yes, It's really, really expensive, but it was worth it! From the moment we were picked up at the airport with a friendly, smiling welcome until we left, we enjoyed it all. Should note that the exorbitant price covers everything - all the food (and whatever you ask the kitchen to make whenever you want it), all the booze (and trust me, my husband did his best to get our money's worth), all the tours. Amazing service, excellent food, and the "tents" were terrific - huge views of Uluru Rock and nothing but the rock. Remote controls in the bed headboard to raise and lower the shades for a sunset or sunrise view of the Rock. Wonderful dinner under the stars, followed by amazing stargazing using their telescopes. Lots of extras, from warm ponchos (useful for sunrise hikes), robes and slippers, Bose CD player and CDs, flashlights, shoe brushes outside the door. We were met at the end of a sunset hike by staff serving us champagne, cheese and figs - lots of extras like that.

Longitude 131 has almost everything going for it to justify its extremely high price tag. The fundamental thing that is lacking is service. Please realize the resort is located literally in the middle
of nowhere. Accordingly, Voyages has a hard time retaining seasoned high caliber help at the resort. For the price tag, the service should have been better. The staff consists of individuals in their late teens to early twenties. They try hard, but at a resort with this price tag Voyages would do well to create a staff of more seasoned people. Breakfast orders never came back correctly. Requests
for snacks for the room, etc. went unanswered. Staff lacked poise and
confidence in communicating with us.

Now . . . all of that being said, Longitude 131 is like no place I've
ever been. Lying in your tent with the shades up looking at the rock is absolutely incredible. Accomodations in the tent rival that of any
5 star hotel I've stayed in anywhere in the world. Excellent wine selection all included in the one price. Dinner under the stars followed by listening to the astronomer was a once in a lifetime experience. This is the only resort in Uluru where you have a view of
the rock from the actual resort.

If Voyages could get some highly trained staff who were self confident and comfortable dealing with guests, they would have something truly unique on their hands.
