“A mixed bag of food but a nice spot for drinks and a meal”

The service is variable, probably due to what seems to be a high proportion of backpacker type waiting staff who perhaps don't know what they are doing. Food could be described as 'Australian' but it is pretty basic in terms of menu range, flavour and presentation. The outdoor eating area is quite nice though, especially in the not so hot part of the year.

Thank you for your review and recommendation that you found The Red Ochre is a "Nice spot for drinks & a meal"

Thank goodness for the backpackers in Alice Springs for without their help tourists/locals would be checking themselves into accommodation, making their own beds and getting their own drinks!!

The Red Ochre averages 187 meals per day and is open from 6.30am until late evenings 7 days a week so staffing and staff training is forever ongoing. I am sure been a local of Alice I would expect you would understand the difficulties in employment. I sponsor 2 full time employees in the Restaurant, one from France, the other Germany; my casual staff include 4 local residences and various tourists on working visas. My kitchen Chefs are all local residences, and I am proud to say that all my staff know what they are doing.

From your review in November it appears that you may have enjoyed lunch with us; on your next visit we look forward to you having dinner with us as we offer a different menu than what is offered during the day. Click on the link above to our web site for details.

An excellent place to enjoy a long lunch Service was excellent great wine selections We were able ro sit and enjoy the food and atmosphere without pressure

“attentative & good atmosphere”

Menu variety excellent, good portions and well priced, staff very friendly, soft ambience inside, visitor walking past may think that it mostly outside dining because of outside eating area at the front of the restaurant, but you will find airconditioned comfort inside

“Interesting menu”

Offers a varied menu of Australian specialties eg kangaroo, camel, barramundi, crocodile though if you want to try all a fairly expensive package. Service varies from excellent to fair, as expected when many are young travelers. Overall good atmosphere and good food.

Thank you for your review of The Red Ochre and also experiencing our signature Taste Of The Outback platter.

The menu is a selection of both Australian Native and contemporary cuisine, little bit like the staff who you may have noticed are a selection of Australian, French, British and German.

check out the menue first before just settling on the special. Veggies wewre included with the steak but an extra cost with the special. Cost the same in the end but the t-bone WAS cooked nicely and the staff were pleasent.
Will go back again on my next visit.

The special you mentioned is our $29 Lunch & Dinner T - Bone Steak Special with a FREE Beer, Glass of Wine or soft drink is served with a creamy mash and caramelised onion. We also have other steaks and sizes served with different options both on our lunch and dinner menus.
