“Nice option for families on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

We rented the 2 bedroom apartment before heading out to the Outback and again on the return. The manager was extremely nice to us, even when we accidentally forgot to tell her we were staying another night and even when we had a dog there for an hour outside while we unloaded our bags. She's very patient with families. :-)

Both of the 2 bed units we stayed in were on the top floor. The first unit was a 2 bed, 2 bath with pull-out couch in living room and a small dining/kitchen area. The second unit was a 2 bed, 1 bath and it had an extra bed (stored under bunk bed when not in use), but no pull-out couch in the living room. The dining area is slightly smaller in this unit, however this unit comes with a washer! There is A/C , heat and one TV. Although I don't think the 2 bed 1 bath unit had A/C in the bedroom. (It has a fan though, which was enough.) The kitchen has pots, pans, dishes so you can cook and eat in your apt.

Positives
1.This hotel is located close enough to downtown Alice Springs (if you have a car).
2.It has free internet!
3.Staff cleaning the rooms are very pleasant and will help you with extra towels, sheets, etc.
4.There is a pool, kids area (somewhat tired looking), and communal washers/dryer. Bring $1 coins for the communal washers and dryer.

Negatives
1.Rooms and decor are dated.
2.The dryer is not good. It takes a LONG time and eats your money! Try to hang your items using the drying rack conveniently located in your apartment.

There is a hot tub area, but we didnt have time to try it.

Overall this is a nice option for families on a budget.

“Slippery showers and noisy downstairs rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

We stayed in a one bedroom downstairs unit. Two flat screen TV's, one in the bedroom. Only one control unit though?

Whilst the unit overall was good, our major setback was the slipperiness of the floor in the bathroom, particularly as there is an 'open' shower arrangement (see photo). My wife has some occasional balance issues and this was extremely disconcerting for her. I also found it to be worrisome. We ended up going to a local department store and purchasing a rubber mat to put on the floor.

One other thing with the shower is that there is no hand hold. If you are at all unsteady, standing on one foot (cleaning the other), or just plain nervous, this combined with the slippery floor is a potential recipe for disaster.

The shower drain from upstairs seemed to come down through a utilities channel in the wardrobe. The running water early in the morning was annoying.

The last thing is perhaps a hazard of living in unit complexes. When upstairs were cooking, there was a significant odor invasion in our unit, even though all the doors and windows were closed.

We would recommend this place to others, but only if you come prepared for the shower issue.

“Loved Alice and will return for longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Arrived in Alice Springs to 48deg caught the airport shuttle to the Alice on Todd apartments
we were not quite sure what to expect but we were very pleasantly surprised and loved our stay here.We were met by Karen who was lovely and made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of information about the area, as we were only here for 3 days we decided we would be eating out and we were given lots of info on restaurants etc (Bojangles - excellent).
We had a 2 bedroom upstairs apartment which had a fully fitted modern kitchenette and a very well furnished lounge area leading onto a small balcony, it was very well equiped including a washing machine and dryer / air - con, the bedrooms were of a good size and the beds were comfy, it had everything we needed.
The swimming pool wasn't very large but big enough to fit into the lovely surrounding garden area was clean and served its purpose, there was also play/games areas etc.
It was appx a 15/20 minutes walk into Alice so quite central where there is a shopping centre, bars, resturants also the Tourist information centre who are brilliant at organising excursions for you - ask for Heather- everything is within walking distance- but its advisable to get a taxi back at night.
We booked on the Alice Wanderer Centre Sightseeing Tour which was brilliant value for money - a full day excursion- (especially if you are only visiting for a few days and want to see as much as possible) we took in the Royal Flying Doctor,Telegraph station,Air School (brilliant - this is a must visit- while in Alice) Ghann museum, Anzac Hill etc.
.As we were going onto stay at Ayres Rock we booked the Uluru/Ayres Rock/Olgas back in a day excursion at Heathers suggestion and at $199 per person ( Emu Run Tours) it was fantastic value and Lockie and Lynn were fabulous drivers/couriers and after a champagne bbq at Uluru watching the stunning sunset they dropped us off at our apartment at Ayres Rock, how's that for service.
We had a brilliant time in Alice and loved the apartment we stayed in and the surrounding area so much we will return to Alice Spings on our next trip to Australia and stay longer as there is so much more to visit eg; Kings Cannyon,Palm Valley,West Macdonnell Ranges.

“great!!!!!”

these apartments are well-appointed and suited our family (of 3 kids aged 7, 4 & 1) very well. LOVED that we had our own washing machine and didn't have to pay $1/load!!! The pool is gorgeous and we overlooked it from our upstairs apartment. Alice on Todd is far enough away from the city centre to be quiet yet close enough for a dash to the supermarket. The owners were fantastic, very helpful. Portacot / highchair was offered free of charge. clean tidy, never lacked kitchen items either. very happy, have and will recommend to others.
The PRICE was GREAT for a family of 5. We stayed in a Std 2 Bedroom Upstairs apt.

“Rooms not up to scratch - Staff the best asset”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2010

I tried this place again on the recommendation of a colleague. I had previously stayed in both their studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments but apart from when they first opened, I found them sparse, with cheap furniture and kitchen gear and with airconditioning only in the lounge areas which could not effectively cool bedrooms in the summer, nor heat the rooms in the winter.
Tried again with their new "1 bedroom Deluxe" apartments but am disappointed again and won't be back. Issues are:
* The shower area looks like it was made for a bath and the builder/owners changed their mind and just tiled a large area and put a 'rain' shower head over the middle of it. The rain shower itself is a gimmick and sited so high (I'm short) that the water was never more than lukewarm by the time it reached me :) There is NO soap holder !!!! There is NO shower screen, so the shower water goes all over the greater bathroom floor and the toilet.
* The bathroom (no heater) will be VERY cold come winter.
* The aircons in both the lounge and bedroom are small and as the lounge wall faces west, I imagine that there is not a hope in heck that the little a/c will be able to keep the lounge cool in the summertime.
* Almost all the glassware, cutlery and plates had been simply rinsed and stacked back in the cupboards either by cleaners or previous guests. I couldn't use any item without cleaning it myself first. Gross.
* The DVD players that were previously in each unit have now been removed and the management advise that the place is changing to 'pay per view' movie channels. This might be OK for short stays but it will be off-putting for longer term business or corporate clients.
* The painted concrete floors and $10 (look) bedside lamps and cheap furniture LOOK cheap and are false economy since the place is not welcoming and certainly doesn't invite repeat stays.
Cannot recommend and will not return. Staff (friendly and helpful as they can be) are the best asset but it's not enough.

Damien Johnson, Owner at Alice On Todd, responded to this review
20 September 2010
Hello Zeddog, Many thanks for your review. Reviews received, both good and bad are very important to us as it allows us to take a good look at our business from the perspective of our valued guests. I am encouraged that Alice on Todd was recommended to you by friends - this happens often as many of our return guests are what we like to refer to as 'raving fans' and like to spread the word. Everybody is different though and in this instance I am very disappointed to hear that your experience while a guest at our property did not meet your expectations. We have reviewed your comments very seriously and I would like to respond as below.
*Shower Areas - I am assuming from your description that you stayed in a downstairs one bedroom deluxe apartment. They have the overhead roses and yes, we have 2 apartments that have a issue with the fall to the floor waste. We have been avoiding using the room except on high demand day, however I am delighted to advise that the issue is being rectified this week. The tiles are being relayed to ensure that the water from the shower does not travel across the floor as is the case with the other 10 downstairs one bedroom deluxe apartments. With this job we will be tackling your feedback on the soap holder - thanks for that. They are on their way! With regards the hot water, this surprises and confuses me. Each apartments has it's own instantaneous gas hot water service so hot water should remain hot during the 600mm fall from the rose. I will have maintenance check the two suspect apartment's services. Again, thank you for the thought. You are right, there is no heater in the bathroom, but since we are just out of winter (a high of 12 degrees today) can I assume that it wasn't that cold for you now and you are making your own assumption? I'd like to know.
Air conditioners - Six of our one bedroom deluxe apartments have western facing walls. The walls are double insulated. The air conditioners were supplied and installed by a refrigeration company that has been servicing central Australia for 15 years and made their calculations according to local conditions. I am very confident that they will be up to the job come summer. I would be happy to offer you a free night's accommodation to test it if you like. That way you won't have to imagine. All of the other one bedroom deluxe apartments (including the one you stayed in) have shelter from the western sun from carports or overhead verandahs.
Glassware, cuttlery and plates - This is very disappointing to us. As managers, we find the cleanliness of Alice on Todd to be 'mission critical'. If you have found this then we need to investigate. I would encourage you if this happens again, whether with us or anyone else you may stay with to contact the management about it ASAP and I guarantee it will be addressed straight away. If you look at other posts on trip advisor about Alice on Todd you will see that we are often credited for our cleanliness. I regret that you have found us to have fallen short. This matter will be investigated further within our company.
Floors and Furniture - The floors are an oxide/ epoxy sealer finish. It was an experiment to attempt something different, also it is easier to keep the floors clean, they don't stain and are non allergenic. Comments from other guest has been supportive of the look. I'm sorry it's not to your taste. The furniture was selected by it's comfort, durability and style and not on it's price tag. It definitely wasn't cheap. Again, we haven't had this type of response regarding the furniture from any other guest but the comment will be filed...
DVD's - Yes we are replacing the DVD players with pay tv movie channels however this will be complimentary, there will be no charge to our guests. Staff have been briefed on this so misinformation on this matter will not be communicated to guests again.
Staff - Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff. We think they are our best asset also! They are critical to the business and we appreciate them. All the staff will read a copy of this post and have an opportunity to respond to management about your concerns.

Once again zeddog thanks for your feedback. Feedback like this is important to the hospitality trade so please keep it up. I see you reviewed 9 other accommodation places on the same date that you reviewed ours - a real mixed bag. Many of the issues that you raised could/should have been mentioned at the time of your stay and we would have been able to make your stay much better for you and it's regrettable that we didn't get the chance. I look forward to perhaps getting the opportunity to have you review us again in the future.

Thanks
