Arrived here for a 2 night stay, having booked via the hotel website on the Red Centre Special, a good deal on a Superior Room with Breakfast and a late check out all for $258 AUD. I had used TA to find a hotel / check the hotels mentioned in the Rough Guide and with the mixed reviews all Alice hotels seem to get I booked the Chifley feeling a bit aprehensive.
On arrival we were checked in very quickly and shown to a ground floor room. It was very big and seemed recently decorated. The safe was big enough to get the laptop in and plently of tea etc.. provided, overall I was pleased with it all.
Bathroom was ok, the shower drain was a bit smelly initially but that went away.
Breakfast in Barra on Todd was good both from service and quality perspective and we also ate there one evening and again the service was good and food / wine excellent.
On trying to obtain a card for Wifi in the room we were told that they were having problems with it but free Wifi was available in the lobby.
As we were travelling light we made use of the laundry facilities - washing machines and drier - very useful and cheap.
Its approx 5 min walk to Alice (bit longer if its hot!). We explored a bit but found that several "attractions" were shut, the Gaol and Residency for instance but we walked up Anzac Hill and the views were great. I would consider myself to be quite fit and I don't normally suffer too much in the heat but we climbed the hill at midday and it was hard work, make sure you have some water and a hat as there is no shade up there.
There is a second hand bookshop in the centre of Alice which is a good place to trade in your books get some money back and make your suitcase lighter.
We went and had a night out in Bojangles - good food and jugs of beer at a reasonable price, nice atmosphere.
Owner / Manager? likes to have laugh with the ladies over the toilet door, you need to play along......
