“poor communications”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I saw many good and excellent reviews about Alice Wanderer in conducting the tours and decided to pick the Uluru day trip with it.
Alice Wanderer in Alice Springs was closed over the festive season and I didn't have a desktop to access the booking webpage, I have to call the national number for Alice wanderer on New Year's eve afternoon (as per advise on the shop window) to make a booking. I was put to the answering machine everytime I called and I left a message (and I was never called back).
Somehow I managed to make the booking through my iphone and an email of booking confirmation was sent approximately 7 days prior to the trip. I didn't get any calls from Alice Wanderer in between and called them 2 days before to confirm my trip.
Pick up time was 0600 but my husband and I didn't see Alice Wanderer passing by but the Emu Run Tour guide was looking frantically for 2 lost passengers at the hotel entrance. She was looking for someone with the name spelt completely different from mine and she didn't have the second passenger's name in record. I called Alice Wanderer again and the operator said he has had informed me that we supposed to join the Emu Run Tour when I called to confirm my trip 2 days ago, which I believed the line service was pretty poor that day and I might have not heard him telling me so. Emu Run had left us then and had to return to the hotel to fetch us. We could instantly see hatred in other tourists' eyes when we got on to the bus as we have delayed the tour, and you can imagine my mood was totally spoilt in the beginning of the trip,
We could have had a better start of the day if Alice wanderer:
1) had clearer instructions on their webpage/confirmation email that they don't run the tour but all the Uluru day trips are taken cared by Emu Run Tour ( as I learnt from the Emu Run guide). Alice Wanderer is just the booking agent for this particular tour. I also felt cheated because the itenerary given by Alice Wanderer was slightly different from Emu Run's.
2) put pick up time and location on the booking confirmation email (did not exist in my case)
3) Transfer the client's name and details properly! I was still very annoyed that they could have forwarded my details to Emu Run rather than making stupid spellings over the phone. They did not even ask for the second passenger's name nor give my contact details to Emu Run.
4) Always return your clients' calls! That's what an answering machine is for!

Thank you for reviewing your experience with Alice Wanderer

As you noted having read the sign on our office door Alice Wanderer was closed from 24.12.2011 to 03.01.12 for the Christmas break and all touring and operations were closed over this period. Emergency and urgent calls were attended to via a message service with email and Our online reservations system operational. It was via this that you booked and confirmed your Uluru Tour. All relevant documentation would have generated at time of booking in a printable format. As noted in your review you called our office two days prior to travel and were advised that your service provider would be Emu Run Tours. All documentation was forwarded to the alternate service provider. It is our practice to inform passengers of any Off Load arrangements at time of confirmation. I am really sorry if you did not understand our phone conversation at the time of confirmation or if the phone reception at your end was not clear.

In order to streamline our online booking service only the lead passenger name is required at the time of booking so unfortunately we did not have the second passenger details to forward to the alternate provider. All details as entered by yourself, with correct spelling were supplied so I apologise if there was a breakdown or error in relation to the spelling of your name.

Having personally handled your call on the morning of your scheduled departure I can confirm that you were there at the correct time and that you confirmed with me that the coach arrived on time and that you declined to board on the basis that it was and Emu Run vehicle rather than an Alice Wanderer vehicle, and that your name was incorrectly spelt on the manifest. Having called me at 0615 - 0620 am to advise that you instructed the coach to leave without you I contacted the service provider who advised the coach to return at 0630 and it then departed Alice Springs on schedule.

I have reviewed our description of this tour online and it does accurately reflect the tour operated by Emu Run however in response to your comments I will review its content to ensure clarity.

Emu Run operates a fantastic Day Tour to Uluru - Kata Tjuta and this is one of the most popular Day Tours offered out of Alice Springs. I highly recommend and endorse their business and operations, I have full confidence that your tour experience met our expectations.

Please feel welcome to call or email should you have any additional comments in relation to your experience with Alice Wanderer. As is evidenced by other travellers comments and online testimonials Alice Wanderer endeavours to provide the best possible tour experience with high levels of client communication so it is with much disappointment that I learn of you dissatisfaction with our service. All points raised are now under review.

On behalf of Alice Wanderer I sincerely apologise for the confusion associated with you booking experience and I will review all our processes to ensure this has been an isolated occurrence. Thank you again for taking the time to review Alice Wanderer Centre Sightseeing.

“Great tour, great complimentary lunch and a very passionate tour guide”

I'd like to congratulate Craig Coterill firstly for running such a great tour company Alice Wanderer. We had a fantastic time at the West Macdonnel Ranges full day tour and would specially like to mention Rachelle our tour guide, driver and (Matt's) life saviour. We found Rachelle very knowledgeable and informative and a great narrator of aboriginal stories which always kept the journey alive. She was very friendly and also had a great sense of humour not to mention her skills as a lifeguard which came in handy when my mate cramped up in the middle of the waterhole and she came to his rescue for which he will always be grateful. The lunch at Glen Helen was also very delicious. Great job Craig, Rachelle and the team at Alice Wanderer.

“Rochelle saved the day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We did the Alice Springs Day round the town trip, with extra free day thrown in & day trip to West Mcdonnell ranges. The same driver- guide, Rochelle, drove on all the trips, she was enthusastic, informed and courteous. Pleasure to listen to her commentary and obvious pleasure at showing off her country.

“WONDERFUL WAY TO SEE ALICE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Our guide, Rachelle, was on the trip both days that we used it. She was an absolute mine of information not only on Alice Springs but the flora and fauna of Australia and the culture of the indigenous population. She was happy to answer any questions and we felt that the whole hop on hop off experience in Alice was extremely good value for money as it included a second day absolutely free.

We would recommend this as a great way of seeing the best Alice Springs has to offer

“Palm Valley Tour”

We went with Andrew on the Palm Valley Tour and enjoyed it tremendously. Andrew's commentary and his knowledge of both the history and the environment was excellent. He accompanied the group on all the walks, which was greatly appreciated by the older members of the group. We felt at all times relaxed and in safe hands.

Palm Valley has always been one of our most popular Tours - the 4WD journey along the Finke River Bed before discovering the ancient oasis of palms nestled into the cliffs of bright red sandstone is always a highlight to a Central Australian Adventure. Really pleased to hear Andrew made the experience so rewarding and was able to share his passion with your group.
