The Waldorf is not luxurious, but not cheap either, and not that well-situated and not that exceptional by any hotel rating system, but it worked for me. One by one: not luxurious, but a very functional room with kitchenette, bathroom, washer/dryer, balcony, closet space, cable TV and a comfortable bed. The management thought of everything: dishwashing soap, sponges, dishtowels, utensils and dishes, laundry detergent and chairs and table on the balcony. The apartment is also well-designed, with the kitchen by the balcony for ventilation, rather than by the entrance.

As for the location: it is a good 10 minute walk to the main road (Broadway) or Central station, and the surrounding streets are deserted at night; on the other hand, the area seems more residential than unsafe.

Now for the ratings climbing: the Waldorf has a few extras that might boost up its ratings. It serves breakfast in its café. It has a (tiny) swimming pool and “spa” (chairs) on its roof. It has a fitness room (closed for renovation). It has an elevator and in-building parking. But honestly, anyone seeking out the Waldorf for these amenities is better off elsewhere. The reason to come here is for the solid basics, fully functional apartments, and acceptable price (for Sydney). And the reception is friendly. In short, it’s totally workable so long as you keep your expectations in check.

When you arrive, you will notice the great hospitality that exists in this hotel. Room is spacious with great and there is everything you need. It's all modern and clean.

We stayed three nights and towels were changed twice. Bed wasn't made at all. So the service lacks a little bit.

Breakfast was suprisingly good, they say that it's "light breakfast" but it's actually a pretty regular hotel breakfast.

Highlight of this hotel is the rooftop. You can find a medium sized pool and a jacuzzi.

The location. It's like 10 minute walk from Central station and 20 minutes to CBD. There is no bus stops nearby and there is just a few restaurants within walking distance. So, if you are not travelling with car - I don't recommend this hotel. But, if you don't need public transportation - this is the hotel.

We decided to stay at the Waldorf Apartments in South Sydney on our way south to Melbourne due to it's location and price, as well as most recommendations on TripAdvisor. We were so glad we did that we returned on our way back to QLD as well. The location is fantastic with only a 10 minute walk to Central Station, and 15 to Darling Harbour. With two boys 13 and 10 the sofa couch proved fine and the 1 bedroom apartment is plenty big enough for the amount of time we spent in it. Hosts Pam and John are excellent, always friendly and interested in their clients. With the complimentary car parking and breakfast -with plenty of choice - I would say this is the best place to stay in Sydney of this genre. Will definitely be back.

Good central location only 5 minutes from central station. Although the area seems a little run down, we experienced no problems or any hint feeling unsafe.
The kitchen was well equippped and even had a dishwasher. The shower had excellent pressure and we really easy to use (some can be pretty fiddly to get the temperature right but this was great) - also - no leakage onto bathroom floor like many places and the bathroom didn't steam up, so you could use the mirror straight away. The washing machine was really quick (and didn't affect the shower whilst in use), and we came back with a case of clean clothes which was a bonus. It was one of those rare places where they had thought of everything you need and it all worked!
We arrived on New Years Eve and staff were really helpful in directing us to some of the best spots for the fireworks too. They were also helpful when our room key didn't work and made arrangements to sort it out at our convenience. Although it is only staffed during the day, staff do live on site and you can raise them in the night if you really need to.
