I have stayed at Australia Street Guest House on a few occassions and found it at all times to be a warm, welcoming, and comfortable stay. I have slept in both rooms, and can attest to their being well equipped, with all the basic necessities. There is a shared bathroom and small kitchenette, both well stocked with everything you need.

I chose to use public transport to get around as it is only a short distance walk to the train station or bus stops, making it a perfect base for exploring Sydney. King Street is also very close by, with plenty of restaurants/cafes and other interesting shops to visit.

I would highly recommend staying at Australia Street Guest House as I see it as a home away from home when I visit Sydney.

Travelling for a couple of days in Sydney, made me decided to stay in a place with easy access to public transport and other shops and conveniences.

The guest house owner, Anne Zahalka, met me when I first arrived and showed me to room number 2 upstairs. Although the stairs were rather steep, but the room was very neat! The bathroom was just across the hall, next to a small pantry, where a fridge, tea/coffee, cups and electrical pot were ready to use.

Room number 2 faced the park and it had a window opening to it. I left the window open at night. The furnitures in the room were rustic and made me feel at home.

Walking distance from the hotel was a local pub and the busy King Street, Newtown - where all the happening, restaurants, movie and other conveniences. Also public transport such as taxi, buses going to the city and train station are of easy access.

I would really recommend this establishment.

My room (which was on the ground floor) hadn't seen a vacum cleaner or a duster in a very long time. There were crumbs and other odds and sods all over the room of the floor.The furniture was tatty and old. I was able to write my name in the thick dust which was everywhere.
The shared bathroom (which you also share with the other guests and family who live there) was dirty. I had to clean the dried-in urine off the toilet seat and remove the thick hairs from the sink.
One thing to note is that the guesthouse has a cat. This was not mentioned at the time of booking.
The family's living area is very modern. It's a shame that the guest accommodation has been left in a run-down condition.
Spend a bit more cash and go elsewhere.

This place was fantastic! Such nice friendly people with great rooms, a real home from home. Very relaxed outlook and close to shops/food/pubs etc. Minutes from centre via trains. We came here for our first week before finding a flat for our work abroad year, would recomened any couple doing the same to consider here. Really nice area with plenty of cheap options if needed.
