“Spoilt the Valentines Day weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Booked through Wotif "mystery pack" (i.e. you dont know what you have got until you book). W\as advertised as 4.5 stars, king size bed, good sized bath, room with a view and intimated that parking was included. Sweet ... sounded like a great surprise Valentines Day weekend getaway.

Check in was without incident.

Was *INCREDIBLY* disappointed with the room.
* Two double beds - decided not to say anything as not to spoil the mood.
* Questionable brown stains on the bathroom wall.
* Bath would be a good size - for an anorexic mouse!
* Valet parking was an extra $50!!
* The view was a concrete wall :-(

That end of Pitt Street is a bit grungy, but to be fair Rydges has little / no control over that.

On the plus side, the check in chick, concierge and valet attendant were great ... no complaints there.

I can guarantee that a birthday weekend getaway planned for later this year WILL DEFINITELY NOT be with any of the Rydges chain.

“One night stay at Rydges World Square”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I booked through wotif because the Rydges Priority Guest programme couldn't match that kind of deal, which I find amazing, I'd be certain they'd want to keep their customers, not push them away.

Anyhoo go to check in, all good, only to be told the king bed I'd ordered through wotif wouldn't be available till 9.00pm Saturday night, I was tired and just wanted to check in so I was saddled with a room with 2 queen beds. Overkill to say the least.

The mini bar is sparce, nothing to say wow. I was offered a late check out for 3.00pm but when I advised the desk clerk that I had to leave early Sunday morning, all I got was a shoulder shrug, instead they should have said to this Priority Rewards member was, well we could comp you 2 glasses of champers or a breakfast in the morning like other Rydges places I have stayed when I advised them of the early next morning start. Look after your Priority members Rydges World Square.

I left a key at the reception for my beautiful other half to collect as he was tired as well, that didn't eventuate because I know for a fact the check in clerk wasn't listening to a word I was saying.

Room was fine, I wouldn't pay full price for the stay what so ever. We ate out as the prices were exorbedent as per any hotel you stay in.

For a night in the city for us it was ok, but we'll be going back to 4 Points and Sheraton on the Park where SPG rewards programme actually treat you well and listen.

Won't be back to Rydges World Square, location is fine but there are greater places to stay in Sydney CBD.

“Nice hotel, convenient location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

First of all, I feel mean giving this hotel just 3 stars - it's definitely better than average but not very good, so I will describe it as just good. The hotel is in Chinatown, where you will find a ton of bars and restaurants. I came back at 2am on Saturday night and it was still going full-swing. There is a lot of traffic but fortunately I couldn't hear it from my room on the 18th floor. Darling Harbour is only a 10 minute walk downhill and there are a number of shops, bars and restaurants there too. I dare say it's a little less lively there.
My room was very comfortable with a view of the street below. The bed is great and there are also a range of pillows to choose from. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle, all of which worked perfectly well. I didn't like the wall-mounted hairdryer though.
I didn't eat or drink in the hotel - there are far too many other places to go to outside.
All in all, a comfortable stay. The rooms lack certain frills, but these are extras which put up the prices in other places. I wouldn't stay here for a romantic break, say, but for basic(ish) comfort and convenience, it's not bad at all.
ps. I only gave it a 3 for cleanliness because although my room was perfectly clean, the carpets in the hallways could have done with being vacuumed.

“Disappointing because faults are not fixed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Not often do I stay at a hotel in my own city ... I had 2 separate stays, of 1 night each.
Where as the rooms are nicely furnished, except I did not like the aircon blowing on me in bed!
Upon my very early morning check out of my 1st stay, I advised the Front Desk the soap holder in the shower was coming off the wall, so soap did not stay there! Not fun having to scramble around for the soap on the shower floor!
Upon my return 5 days later, at check in, I find I am assigned the same room!
You can imagine my disappointment at finding the problem in the shower had not been rectified!
Again at checkout I informed the Front Desk of the problem .... maybe the next guest will find the problem fixed.... I hope
p.s. room 1754 if Rydges are interested ....
