“Once was enough..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The place was very average... The windows let in every sound, so during the night the trucks and street sweepers sounded like they were in the room with us.. The desk didn't get any of our package correct and blamed the fact that they had so many offers for the confusion.. We had late checkout as part of the package,... I happened to confirm, and it wasn't marked, so they did give it to us, but when we went to our room at 11am we found we were locked out.. The whole place is run down.. They had a notice of intention to build up in reception, so I had a look thinking it was good they were renovating, but no, they are planning to take over the shop next door and open a bottle shop.. The breakfast was over a blocks walk to another hotel.. The location was excellent, but after being there and seeing all the other hotels in the same excellent location, we will never stay there again no matter how good the price is..

Dear Goggles4u,

Thank you for supplying your feedback in regards to your most recent stay here at the Aarons Hotel Sydney. We value all feedback received as we believe it is the only we can continue to develop and maintain a high level of standards.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise that unfortunately your stay fell short of your expectations surrounding certain areas of the hotel services.

The Aarons Hotel Sydney occupies a Heritage Listed building which does provide us with small challenges surrounding council policy and procedures. Whilst this is just a minor hindrance we do endeavour to do our best that it does not impact on our guests stay and I apologise that the noise from outside of the hotel left a negative outcome on your recent visit.

As mentioned there are developments happening within the hotel building not just the rooms but also our in-house restaurant (completion date expected end of February 2012) and newly appointed bottle shop to allow us to provide better services and environment for our future guests having taken on board previous feedback made by our valued guests. We apologise for the inconvenience to all of our guests whilst these developments are taking place.

It is disappointing to read that our staff, were unable to confirm the exact booking details both at the time of booking and upon your arrival. The hotel does try to offer a variety of different packages to suit all travellers however each one is clear on what they include and I apologise that this was not clearly communicated between departments.

The key cards that the hotel provides as access to the individual rooms, whilst act as extremely good security for our guests, do unfortunately lock out at 10am the ordinary check out time of the day of departure and this would have been the reason for it not working at 11am. Again I sincerely apologise that this was not confirmed with you at the time of check in.

I appreciate at this stage that due to the negative impact these issues had on your stay you do not wish to return to the Aarons Hotel Sydney. However I would like to assure you that we have taken all of your comments very serious as we do with all feedback provided on the hotel and would like the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to provide you with a more positive outcome and overview of the standard of services we do provide.

Should you change your mind please don’t hesitate to contact us direct on res@aaronssydney.com.au and advise that you were previously a guest at the Aarons Hotel Sydney.

Again Goggles4u, I sincerely apologise for the discomfort you found yourself in and hope that we do have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.

Thank you
Joanne

“Suited for party goers.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Rooms spacious and clean and very basic. A lot of drunk young people screaming till 5am up and down the corridors. Because its fairly cheap it attracts a much younger crowd who have no respect for people trying to sleep. Unfortunately can't stay there again.

Dear Melfromaustralia,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience of the Aarons Hotel Sydney. It is with great disappointment to read that you would not return to the hotel in the future due to the noise caused by others within the hotel.

I sincerely apologise if this was not dealt with in an efficient manner by our staff as we have a strict policy in place at the hotel for disturbance of other guests and if provided with enough warning by hotel staff to quieten down to no avail, will be asked to leave the property. The hotel does operate a 24 hour reception desk where staff are always have to help with any concerns that our valued guests have to ensure their stay is a comfortable one. It is disappointing to read that in this case the staff were not able to offer this assistance and resolve the issue.

The Aarons Hotel Sydney does offer a wide variety of room configurations and seeks to provide budget accommodation for a wide variety of travellers. It is with great regret that on this occasion we were not able to meet your expectations leaving you with a negative impact on your stay.

Should you change your mind and find yourself visiting Sydney in the future, we would be extremely happy to welcome you and your friends/family back to the Aarons Hotel Sydney and ensure that it is a comfortable stay. If you wish to do so please contact the hotel direct on res@aaronssydney.com.au and advise us of your previous stay.

Thank you

“For budget travellers with low expectations”

I booked into a standard room alone. If I'd had my husband with me, both of us would not have been able to turn around in the room, let alone the bathroom. I asked for an upgrade which they gave me at no extra cost. The staff were very polite and friendly. The second room was much better but generally the hotel is in need of a major upgrade. The towels are very thin and not comfortable, there was no view (an air conditioner blocked the view out of the window), and the garbage trucks drive right past the hotel at 3 am making a huge racket. Either that or it's the fresh produce being delivered to all the Chinese restaurants very early in the morning. Absolutely no frills. Had to walk two blocks away to have breakfast (in a much better hotel). Breakfast was usual fare - not outstanding. There were loads of school kids and busloads of people so you had to pick your time for breakfast. The general area (lobby, lift, corridors) are all very old and in disrepair. The good side was a fantastic location in Chinatown near Paddy's Markets and the harbourside. Very convenient. I certainly would not stay there again and would not suggest having it on a list of recommended accommodation for a conference.

Room Tip: Away from Ultimo Road (to avoid the noise).

Dear Rob074,

Thank you for providing your feedback on your recent stay at the Aarons Hotel Sydney. It gives us great pleasure to read that the staffs were able to provide you with a complimentary upgrade to ensure your stay was more comfortable.

The Aarons Hotel Sydney does offer a wide variety of room types and configurations and do vary also slightly in size, however we would advise that a deluxe is slightly more spacious than a standard for those wanting to spread out and maybe spend a few days with us.

The hotel is undergoing some refurbishments not only to rooms but to the building with a new restaurant taking shape ready for opening at the end of February 2012 along with conference room for hire from the end of March 2012 and newly appointed bottle shop next door. We apologise that during this time the inconvenience it may cause to our valued guests, however we feel it best to still be able to provide this service to those that choose to take advantage of the full hot and cold buffet breakfast located just a 2 minute walk from the hotel main reception.

The hotel itself does occupy a heritage listed building of which we are proud to inherit, with this any renovations or changes that are done to the building must be passed by the local council and conform with all regulations to keep the original outlook of the building. Whilst this does provide us with certain minor challenges we do endeavour to ensure that these do not impact on our guests and we sincerely apologise that the noise from outside of the building due to trucks visiting the surrounding area had a negative impact on your stay.

It is extremely disappointing to read that you would not stay at the hotel again or recommend to friends/family. We do take all guest feedback very serious as we know this is the only way to maintain and develop the services and standards that we set not only ourselves but for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. Should you change your mind please contact the hotel direct on res@aaronssydney.com.au and advise you were a previous guest, we would be delighted to welcome you back to the Aarons Hotel Sydney.

Thank you

“A bit misleading”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The standard family room is quite small - no table or other space to move or sit as depicted on the website photos (it seems photos for the deluxe family room are there instead). The beds were hard and there was dust on the night stands. The fan in the room didn't work. The hotel itself is conveniently located, but the website images make the rooms appear a bit more modern and spacious than they are in actuality. The terms and conditions are likewise misleading as they specifically mention a cancellation/refund period, but we were denied our request to change dates when our flights changed on the grounds that we had booked an early bird special. The terms and conditions associated with a booking should be revised to be made accurate, and not just contain standard language which may or may not apply to particular rates. Sydney is an expensive city, making the hotel an ok mid price-range option for families -- just be prepared for cramped and slightly shabby quarters. We travel very often and are generally low-maintenance but found ourselves misled and disappointed with this hotel.

Dear OnzeWereld,

Thank you for recently staying at the Aarons Hotel Sydney and taking the time to provide feedback on your experience.

I would like to sincerely apologise that you found the website photos misleading and as all feedback received we have taken this very serious and reviewed the photos that we have loaded on the website to ensure that they are a true reflection of the rooms. We do also advise that the Deluxe Family cater for those wanting to spread out or stay longer with us as they are slightly more spacious.

I would also like to apologise if the terms and conditions of the Early Bird/Advance Purchase rates were not clearly explained at the time of booking. Unfortunately one of the policies of booking an Advance Purchase rate and therefore receiving a larger discount off the daily rate is that it is based on no cancellations/amendments or refunds. This is due to the rate only being available on certain days throughout the year and may have not been available on the dates you then required. When booking on our website it does state that the booking is based on these terms and I am truly sorry if it was not highlighted clearly on your paperwork or at the time of booking.

Again OnzeWereld, please accept our sincere apologies that your stay at the Aarons Hotel Sydney fell short of your expectations. We do however thank you for bringing these comments to our attention to allow us to improve in these areas and make sure it does not affect our future guests.

Thank you

Joanne

“Good for Budget Travellers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We were travelling around Asia and Australia, and had just arrived from luxurious hotel in Hong Kong to Aarons hotel in Sydney...and I'll not lie, I could have cried!
The hotel is like an upmarket hostel, but once you get over the shock it is O.K for a quick stoppover in Sydney. We were there 5 days. The staff are really friendly. The hotel is dated and the rooms are very basic. But accomodation in Sydney is expensive and unfortunately we were not willing to pay the prices! The room was cold but once we got the heating working it was fine, and the bathroom did resemble a cabin in a caravan, but it was basic and clean.
Location wise, it is situated in the middle of China town. Although we were not entirely hooked on this idea, we knew this before we went so were prepared! We got the train straight in from the airport, and the station was literally a 5minute walk so that was definitely a huge advantage. It is also really close to the hop on hop off tourbus stop, so again that was handy. We did walk the whole way to the opera house on one occassion - it is a long walk but it is definitely do-able if you dont mind walking!
The hotel is very basic, and I was initially shocked. But it is a budget hotel and quite clean, so it is suited for a brief stay in Sydney. Location great.
