“great location for work and play”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Hilton Sydney is located directly opposite QVB on George St. which makes it perfect for shopping and just a few minutes walk away from the financial and business districts. Coles and Woolies are located within 2 mins walk from the hotel.
The rooms were refurbished a couple of years ago and still look brand new. I like that there are plenty of lights in the room and the shower is very well designed (Love the tv in the shower!) There's free wifi in the lobby.
I arrived early on a monday morning and was delighted that the room was ready. Check-in and check-out was fast and friendly.

“fantastic hotel for work and play”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel is in a great location for taking in all the sights of Sydney. It is set amongst many top bars, restaurants and shops so everything is on your door step.
The hotel itself is modern and clean. Rooms are a decent size but not huge. Rooms on floors 23 and above have been refitted so make sure you get oe of these. Bathrooms in lower floors are quite outdated with trickly showers. Electric blackout blinds are featured in each room, as well as flat screen tv with dvd player.
Restaurants in this hotel are all of a very high standard but the prices do reflect this. Breakfast is the most extensive buffet I have ever seen and is full of fresh and flavoursome dishes. Only downside is $40.
Staff are helpful and one touch 'magic' service very efficient. Concierge all very knowledgeable on local area and attractions.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms below level 23 as not been updated yet. Rooms next to lifts noisy due to fast lifts pas...

“Good value luxury hotel in excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed in a Standard King room. I was on floor 26. See my video for what the room looked like. It was modern and clean, and a good size. The bed was very comfortable and there is a pillow menu. There was a shower but no bath. Complimentary toiletries were superb. The floor-to ceiling windows let lots of light into the room and there are loads of lights and dimmer switches to get room looking how you would like in the evening. There is a mini-bar and complimentary tea and making facilities in the room. The complimentary bottle of mineral water and piece of fruit each day was a nice touch. The desk was a good size.

Hotel service is excellent. People always offer to help with luggage etc. and will do what they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The service is 5*. Complimentary WiFi in the hotel lobby was very useful for checking the occasional emails etc.

Breakfast each morning was superb, but not cheap, at around $AUD 42 per person. The selection of food was excellent; pastries, eggs, breads, sausages, bacon, fruits, muselis, cereals, teas, coffees, for instance.

The hotel is well located. It is a about a 20 minute walk to Darling Harbour. Hyde Park is a 5 minute walk away. The Royal Botanic Gardens were a 20 minute walk away. Two train stations are within a 5 minute walk of the hotel too.

I would definitely stay here again in the future. For the quality of room and service I received, I thought the room rate (around £115 per night) was very good value for Sydney.

“Wedding night from hell”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012
1
person found this review helpful

My husband and I decided to stay at the Hilton for our wedding night. After months of planning our dream wedding, we wanted to be able to have a memorable night to celebrate our wedding. The night certainly was memorable - for all the wrong reasons.

Upon checking in with his groomsmen, my husband requested (in two separate) phone calls some ice and three towels. Only one towel came.

Fast forward to after the service and we arrived back to the room to enjoy the "Romance Package" which we had prepaid for. Soon came a mediocre bottle of sparkling and a huge plate with 6 small chocolates on it.

The next problem we faced was with the bed. We were hoping for, no - with the price we paid we were expecting a luxurious bed. Instead we got a lumpy mattress, lumpy quilt and paper thin pillows which obviously effected the quality pf sleep we got.

The final straw came the next morning when we were getting ready for breakfast. The mechanical blinds which blocked out people being able to see into our room was faulty and only one side worked. Frustrated, we went down to Glass - the only redeeming feature of the hotel - only to be told that it was closed for refurbishment and that breakfast was taking place in a function room. We were not informed of this when making our booking.

We had booked a late check out but after all this drama, we left at 10am utterly disappointed.

As unhappy customers, we did what we thought was neccessary and provided feedback to the hotel which we were told, buy another nights stay and we will upgrade you for free. It was a real shock and disappointment to think that our one wedding night was ruined by a hotel that misled us into believing we would get a certain level of service when what we recieved was sub-par.

I know of wedding couples, who make a booking, and through the efficiency of their hotels, get things like flowers and chocolates and wine as a gift. We paid extra for ours- in the hope that we would get what we paid for.

After our disppointing stay at the Hilton Sydney and even more frustrating communication with them afterward, I think its safe to say that the Hilton have lost our business for good.
