“Nice staff but disappointing facilities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Hi - I stayed here for 2 nights. When I got to my room the radiator outside was on full blast and I was told to turn the dial down but this made no difference. I was then told that the water pump is broken and the radiotors must be kept on to provide hot water. I had a shower cubicle i my room and when I went to have a shower there was no shower head. The Duty Manager came up and said that I would have to go to a different room for a shower, so I had to walk through the hotel in my towel which was not very nice. Although the problems were dealt with in a pleasant manner I felt that the communication was bad between departments as my room should have been out of service. The bed was comfy and breakfast was nice, but the room could have done with a lick of paint and it would have been nice if my clothes hadn't been left on the floor by the chambermaid.

“I stayed here with work and although...”

I stayed here with work and although comfortable the rooms are bit shabby, in need of a lick of paint and a good clean. A tip: the rooms are in converted outhouses and the Walls are thin and if you are on the ground floor you can hear every movenent from the people in the room above. This can get annoying. On the whole an average stay.

“£80 a night far too much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

This hotel is in a nice setting but for £80 a night, you would expect a lot more for your money.
The rooms are very basic but nice. The only TV offering (all be it on a big widescreen tv) are the 5 analogue channels, which a very fuzzy!

The rooms are clean, but you can see where the hard to reach places are that have been left for a while.

There is no aircon in the room (2x fans supplied) but I found it so hard to sleep even with the windows open.

I would either spend the extra and stay in the Marriott down the road, or stay in a travel lodge. It would probably be more comfortable!

One good thing though is the breakfast. This is in the main pub across the car park. It was very good quality with pleanty of choice. If it were not for that, the £80 a night would be laughable.

“Simply the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2009

I had been told about this cracking little place but we never expected it to be so good. The staff were friendly and the real ales were perfect. Oak beams and real fires made a cosy relaxed atmosphere. The food is where we had a real treat, we shared the feathers homemade charcuterie board and it was amazing. We then each had venison, Beef pudding and turbot, superb! the creme brulee is not to be missed.
I did not realise food in the North East could be so good and we know now where we will be going. A very good night was had by all and the place was packed so we are not the only ones to think so.

“OK, but poor value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2009. Perfect location for our family gathering in Ware. Cost £80 per night for a very basic room. A bit grubby with some disconcerting stains on the wall. Functional bathroom with a noisy electric shower. Comfortable bed. Old TV with terrestrial channels only. Needs a lick of paint in places.

Nice pub attached but a shame that it closed at normal pub times so there were no facilities available for guests after 11pm.

Nice breakfast room and reasonable choice of food. Shame the chef wasn't capable of cooking an egg. Serving staff pleasant and helpful.

Reasonable hotel (if they knocked 20 quid off the nightly rate).
