“OK, but poor value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2009. Perfect location for our family gathering in Ware. Cost £80 per night for a very basic room. A bit grubby with some disconcerting stains on the wall. Functional bathroom with a noisy electric shower. Comfortable bed. Old TV with terrestrial channels only. Needs a lick of paint in places.

Nice pub attached but a shame that it closed at normal pub times so there were no facilities available for guests after 11pm.

Nice breakfast room and reasonable choice of food. Shame the chef wasn't capable of cooking an egg. Serving staff pleasant and helpful.

Reasonable hotel (if they knocked 20 quid off the nightly rate).

“They've got their act together..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2009

Stopped over at The Feathers for a night, and arrived very late. The staff phoned twice to make sure I was ok, and hadn't got lost. Manager was waiting to welcome me, offered me a nightcap, and quickly dealt with the formalities. Room was very clean, clearly recently upgraded, and comfortable. Shower especially good. Breakfast offered a wide choice - fruit, pastries, yoghurt, cereals, plus freshly cooked full English - all to a good standard.

Have since read the previous reviews, and can only conclude I either stayed in a different hotel, or they've got their act together. Would definitely return.

“Like mother used to make!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2009

Heard about the new award they'd received from Brian Turner, so had to find out for myself what all the hype was about. Welcoming old fashioned cosy public house, got seated next to the fire. Started with the homemade pate on toast which was fantastic, but the highlight of the meal was the beef, cooked just the way it should be, pink in the middle which is rare to find these days. Apple pie a little sweet but once again homemade. Great wine list, great service and already booked in for mothers day.

“Brilliant if you like cobwebs!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2009

Bearing in mind the cost and poor availability of alternative accommodation in the area, the Feathers is adequate - just.

However, although the rooms apear to be "cleaned" regularly they are certainly not cleaned thoroughly. I stayed there on a couple of occasions and there were cobwebs everywhere. It appears that if somewhere was not easily reachable it was not vacuumed or dusted and therefore was covered in weeks old dust etc.

Not somewhere I would recommend.

“great accomodation - terrible food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2008

After reading the reviews for the Feathers Inn, I was quite anxious about our stay. I should not have been - the newly renovated accomodation is spacious and clean and a big comfy bed and great showers. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Downside is the food - the meal was awful, tough steak and a very poor quantity and selection of veg. Dessert tasted very processed. It was a shame because the inn is very quaint with open log fires and a cosy atmosphere. Breakfast was ok - I was glad to see free range eggs being served but the fruit was almost rotten!

I would recommend this place but suggest you eat elsewhere.
