We had booked to stay here for three nights as part of our Euro trip and it actually took us almost three months of looking around for a cheap budget hotel in Paris that we found this one to be the most reasonable solely because of the reviews from Trip Advisor. There were only two reviews and both were OK so we chose this one. We had stayed in ETAP on two occasions previously and even though they were no frills but at least clean and just like everyone else, we just needed a clean place to sleep while in Paris for three days BUT......we were so wrong.
The misery started as soon as we stepped in. We arrived late from Brussels and the main door of hotel was closed. Didn't know whats going on till another woman entering told us that its a self-serice check-in because the receptionist leaves ( the same short guy with dark hair and around 50 years old that the other poster talked about ) at 2100. OK no problem. The check-in machine is there and instructions are also written. The problem was my debit card is without a chip so I had to swipe but the machine wouldn't accept it since it only accepts Credit/Debit cards with a chip. Since this is also done for security so thats also fine but where do I get the help in this case ??
There was a phone number mentioned on the leaflets laying so I called it from mobile. It was the usual recorded voice rubbish of press 1 press 2 till it asked me enter the confirmation number which I did and it only told me I had a reservation for three nights, thank you and the line is gone. I was shocked, did I call you at 34 cents per minute ( which is from the French landline numbers, from mobile it would be even more - don't know how much ) just to confirm if I have a reservation in this hotel ???
Finally, got a woman on the domophone whom I told her about the problem and she asked me to wait since she had to speak to the hotel manager. After waiting for a few minutes, she finally gave me the access code to open the main door and then room. Went to the room and thats where the fun started...
1 - The bed was full of people's hair ( not sure if only people's hair ), so were the blankets, and bedsheet and pillows. There were stains of I don't know what all over the bedsheet and pillows. The carpet was as clean as the one on which my dog sleeps ! We were too disgusted even to put our luggage on it, putting our feet on it was even harder !
2 - The bathroom was even worse and shower was the funniest I have ever seen ( I mean funny because shocking ). The bathroom floor was again full of hair so wouldn't bother to use it.
The toilet bowl was also broken and it looked too digusting to use, I actually used the toilet downstairs in the reception area when I needed it.
3 - The sink was also dirty and full of hair. So were the towels, thanks God we had at least our own towels. We were thinking about going out and buying our own bedsheet and a blanket since we were tired and needed to get some sleep and we went out looking around for shops but it was too late for that since everything was closed.
4 - Coming back after having a smoke outside, it was late at night and I saw a couple of black guys trying to open the doors of rooms one by one by guessing access codes !
5 - I fell asleep ( of course wearing all my clothes ) because I was too tired but my girl-friend spent the night awake sitting in the chair reading her book as she was too disgusted to even sit on that bed !
Next day at about 5 in the morning, we sat together thinking what to do and finally decided to look for another hotel. Since in this hotel you pay night by night even if you have booked for three or more nights, early check out was possible. I had read reviews on Trip Advisor people saying 'this hotel ruined my holidays' and I couldn't believe how can a hotel ruin someone's trip untill I experienced it myself.
Next day we went out and booked Radisson Disneyland in the nearby internet cafe, came back and told the reception that we wanted to check out and all he said was 'Thank you very much' and this was actually the only good thing about this hotel.
We have now sworn never to stay in any ETAP ever and if you are thinking about booking this hotel, I would rather recommend you to sleep on a bench in some park. This ETAP was the best of all other ETAPs in Paris as per the reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites and I don't want to know how would be the other ETAPs and similar budget hotels then !
If you are going to Paris and can't afford an expensive quality hotel, my suggestion would be to either don't go or sleep in the park !
