“Tropical Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We spent 3 wonderful days at the Epiphyte, which is located in the rain forest within Daintree National Park. The grounds were beautiful, the room clean and comfortable and the managers were terrific. In all, it was our favorite accommodation in our 7 week trip to Australia.

“Amazing location and wonderful hosts.”

We stayed four nights at this beautiful little B&B in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest, surrounded by lush greenery and all sorts of wildlife. We even saw two wild cassowaries in the backyard! Our hosts, Ernie and Glenda, were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was amazing. The rooms are beautifully decorated, as is the house itself, and the gorgeous open porch looking out over the rainforest hills is one of the most picturesque places I've ever had breakfast. Ernie and Glenda: thanks again for a wonderful stay!

“Amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We stayed here for a week and loved it. Glenda and Ernie, our hosts, were just wonderful - kind, welcoming and friendly people. The wildlife around Epiphyte was stunning and Glenda and Ernie help out with some wild cassowaries that were struggling to survive after the harsh weather had depleted their natural food supply. Just after we left a wildlife crew from the UK were due to arrive to film them, so that tells you something about the place! Our room was the separate cabin next to the main house, and we loved it there. Where else can you be having a shower and see a wild cassowary stalking past your window?! We slept well every night and found everything clean and well prepared. It was nice to be able to cook for ourselves in the little kitchen there, but the B&B down the road was fine for evening meals. Glenda's breakfasts are fantastic - fresh fruit, nice bread and pretty much everything else you would be likely to want. They gave us a great welcome and were very knowledgeable about local tourist activities, especially the smaller outfits catering for wildlife enthusiasts. We had a great time and if we were ever in the Daintree again, would stay there at the drop of a hat.

“Overun by large spiders...”

If you're an arachnophobe sleeping here will either kill you or cure you. We stayed at the Golden Orchid cabin. It is probably called Golden Orchid because of the huge Golden Orchid spiders that inhabit the terrace (each the size of a dinner plate).

Absolutely filthy inside, although we had clean bedding. Everything was dusty.

In the evening we spotted a huntsman spider on the wall. Not a very big one, but still the size of a large English house spider. Later during a shower a much bigger one ran over my foot...

We slept in fear of things crawling all over our faces... I know we're in a rainforest but still... There are products you can buy to repel spiders away from the property.

We got up at 7am to leave. We met an English lady and a little girl at the main building sat on the terrace. The poor little girl looked terrified looking all around her. We left his $140 on the table and got out of there as fast as we could!

“Awful, dirty..worse B & B ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

After reading excellent reviews about this place before we left for our holiday we were totally shocked and let down by what we found. We were really looking forward to staying here and driving up the drive and being met by our host we still were really looking forward to it. It was only when we got into the house that we realised we would be cutting our trip short! It was absolutly filthy. The place clearly hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. The bathroom sink and all the tops was full of dead spiders and bugs. There were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. Everything in the lounge was covered in a thick layer of dust and dead bugs. We were aware that its the rainforest and theres lots of bugs around but these were not fresh spider webs or dead bugs, it just hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. There were no fly nets in the room so at night you need your mozzie net down, However it was full of holes so didn't really serve the purpose. There is no air-con but you can't use the ceiling fan as the mozzie net is attached to it! Instead you are provided with 2 old rusty fans to try and get as close to you as possible. We had the worse nights sleep ever, baking hot and paranoid I was going to wake up covered in bites.Bathroom horrible, rusty old shower and dirty. This place has the potential to do so well, its a beautiful house and the deck off the room is lovely. I'm not sure where its gone wrong since the previous good reviews,, they did say they are just house sitting for the owner, so maybe thats why its gone really down hill. Will definitely not recommend staying here to family and friends...
