We have known about this place and its reputation for over thirty years and finally got there for lunch en route across the Pennines. There is absolutely no doubt that its situation is delightful and the inn is charming. The service was exemplary. Yet, and yet, the food was very disappointing. The presentation was imaginative – veering upon ponsey. But, OH’s steak and ale pie contained undercooked (not al dente, but raw) vegetables and the pastry was burned. My battered haddock was horribly oily – served on a page of ‘Shibden Mill Times’ which gradually incorporated itself into each forkful. What a shame...
