Wonderful view from our room. Would have been nice to have had a TV as the weather was bad. Had dinner in the restaurant, the early bird menu was very good value.

This place was the one real disappointment in our visit to Ireland. The rooms were clean, but that was all you could say for them. There was a smell of chip fat combined with a musty smell at the entrance. Thankfuly the room didn't smell, but it was 'tired' and no additions that you should expect for the price - no tea/coffeemaking facilities and no TV in the room. In fact it was really a hostel. It advertises Wi-Fi but this is only available in the TV lounge which was again very tired and dated. We didn't eat there as the smells put us off. I have to question whether the other positive reviews are genuine, or whether it has changed hands since they were made, as we chose this place based on the reviews and it was a let down. We would recommend you go elsewhere.
On a scuba-diving weekend we decided to stay nearby in Leenane. After researching accommodation in the area we chose Portfinn Guesthouse due to positive reviews on Tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed. Our room was clean, modern and very comfortable. The bathroom was basic but had a great shower with plenty of hot water. There was no TV in the room but this led to a more relaxing experience. There is a communal TV/lounge area for guests.
The Fjord restaurant in this guesthouse was fantastic. The quality and choice of the food was excellent. It is primarily a seafood restaurant but on the second night we had steak and lamb which was top quality. All courses, both seafood and otherwise, were delicious and in ample portion sizes. There is also a large selection of wines available. The service was extremely friendly and prompt. This is definitely one of the best places to stay in the West of Ireland.
Stayed in Portfinn recently. Room was beautiful and spacious- cosy chairs for reading, comfy bed and great views. Had a really nice meal, perfectly cooked lobster - want to go back tomorrow!
My wife, some friends and I visited the Portfinn lodge and restaurant in August 2010 and had a super experience. The lodge is set overlooking Killary harbour which is stunning as it has green mountains that sweep down to the sea. We had dinner in the Fjord restaurant which was wonderful. Great food, try the duck, nice wine and a very entertaining host, Oran, who I beleive is the owner. The prices are very reasonable and we can't wait to go back!
