“Hidden gem in the heart of Ireland!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

My husband and I stumbled upon this quaint little establishment recently on our drive back to Dublin. It is a beautiful stone building with ample free parking. We were welcomed in the bar area by one of the owners who gave us a lovely table in the corner next to the open fire. They also have a separate restaurant but we chose to eat in the bar as the open fire was just so inviting on a cold November evening. I chose the Chicken Maryland from the evening bar menu which was absolutely delicious. It came with homemade fritters, a mini pancake and homemade chips. My husband had the 10oz steak which was served on a sizzling platter. That too was delicious and the portion was huge! We shared the homemade apple strudel for desert which could only be described as heaven on a plate! The premises were the cleanest we have ever set foot in and the decor was warm and inviting. We intend to return for a weekend mini break in the near future!

“Terrible food!”

We stopped here for food one saturday afternoon while driving past, heading from Birr to Tullamore. I ordered the 'homemade' burger but what I got was clearly NOT homemade in any way. I got one of those flat burgers straight out of a packet of 10, the ones you get in tesco's. We could see into the kitchen! We also watched the chef microwave our two dinners. He gave them a good 4 minutes each and the vegetables were absolutely cremated!
The decor and the whole building in general looked lovely and very inviting. We sat in the bar/restaurant and the place was warm and spotlessly clean, but we will absolutely never eat here again. Lovely venue, terrible food!

“Best in a land of great B&Bs”

In a land full bed and breakfasts with friendly hostesses and good food, Rita and her staff were even better than the best. We found this place by accident, but it will always be our base now for exploring the midlands and the west coast. Clean rooms, delicious food, a bar full of friendly locals (I even learned to enjoy Guinness here), this is Ireland at its best.
