My husband and I held our wedding here 4 weeks ago . The service and focus we got from everyone from stephen , Paul , Ritchie even down to kevin was second to none . The rooms, food and service was outstanding . They allowed us a private dance in nightclub before it opened as surprise for groom, as we had met there nearly 5 years ago .

Dear ripli_11

It is with regret you did not enjoy your stay with us recently. There was an extra charge on your Accommodation as there was an additional child on bed & breakfast compares to the initial reservation. You mentioned your room was in need of repair. Our Front Office Team are on duty 24/7 and if reported, would have forwarded any maintenance issue to our Buildings Manager. We try our very best to be helpful, courteous & friendly to all our guests and I think it is most unfair to brand all our staff as unfriendly. Your comments are vague and I would appreciate if you took the time to contact me at the Hotel on 057 9120032 to discuss your complaints in greater detail.

Yours sincerely,

“At week-ends be afraid!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

On paper this hotel looks pretty good, the location is excellent, the car parking facilities brilliant. We stayed for five nights that included the week-end. First impressions were of a tired establishment that could do with a bit of TLC in certain areas, certainly the restaurant and bar had received it but the hall and stair carpets needed replacing. Alarm bells rang when several of our party had been moved to other B&B's we were assured our room was in the quiet part of the Hotel. Breakfasts were attended to by staff members who were also on reception duty, this occasionally meant a wait or a trip to reception to get service, the food passed the test but sadly we had to request certain basics to be replenished, like cornflakes, marmalade and on the very first morning there was no fresh orange juice. The Hotel has its own adjoining disco, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the noise from the entertainment and from the people attending is horrendous, This does not start until about 1230am and continues until at least 3am with cars racing around the car park. The noise reverborates throughout the whole Hotel and makes sleep impossible. The food served in the Bar was very good with huge portions and served by accomodating and friendly staff. I believe the Hotel needs to decide whether to look after its guests or keep taking the revenue from its night club and therefore alienate the hotel guests on a week end.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the night club and if possible not overlooking the car park

Dear Wolverhampton,

Thank you for taking time to comment on your recent stay, I know the MG Owners Club had a great trip despite the inclement weather!!!
In initial correspondence with the group leader, it was highlighted the Hotel was adjacent to a Nite Club. With this in mind, some members of your party requested to be relocated to a Bed & Breakfast on Emmet Square next to the Hotel. While some rooms may experience noise from the club, the Hotel cannot account for noise from cars on the public roads. The Hotel is located in Emmet Square which is a public area and not the private grounds of Dooly's Hotel nor the Hotel Car Park.. I would like to point out our Hotel Car Park is located across the square next to the local Garda Station.
I am delighted you enjoyed the good food, generous portions and friendly staff in the Hotel. I appreciate your comments on the carpets - this is general wear & is cleaned constantly.
Again I would like to thank you for your review & hope to welcome you back to Dooly's Hotel next year.

Yours Sincerely,

Stephen O' Connor

“Nice Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Stayed at Dooleys for one night recently on a dinner b & b all inclusive package that was booked by a third party so dont know about its value for money. The hotel rooms were spotless clean and comfortable. There was a tv in the room but there were only a couple of channels working. The food in the hotel was well presented and tasty and service was very good.A pleasant stay all round.

“little bijou in the midlands!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

On a little tour of a number of counties lately I had the pleasure of staying a night in Doolys of Birr. It looks quite massive from the outside but once inside you discover that it is an 18 bedroom hotel, hence quite small but on the night in question it was full of activity with the local dancing school in full session and later dancing for adults. We took a bite to eat in the bar and have to commend both the chef and the bar staff.......the food was yum and the waiter and barmaid were just delightful. Our room was spacious (which cant be said for a lot of rooms these days), very clean and comfortable and testiment to the bar facilities we later tried a number of the local bars but as these didnt quite match up to what we had witnessed earlier in the hotel we retired to the hotel bar......warm and cosy spring to mind! The final gem mention for this hotel was the breakfast before we left....as I had had my fill of 'full Irish' brekkies at this stage I opted for a pair of poached eggs.........well suffice it to say they were the BEST poached eggs that have ever been presented to me making my overnight in Birr a memorable one and very much thanks to Doolys and the only reason it gets 4stars and not 5 is that part of the carpet in the early stages of the stairs were very unclean and just took from the lovely ambiance going round but otherwise well done all round. Did I mention great value?!

Room Tip: As there is no lift one would be advised to look for lower floors!

Dear Mauraaaaa,

Thank you for taking time to review our Hotel. It is great to hear you enjoyed all our facilities on the night. It can be a little busy with dance class for the young aspiring Flatleys & Butlers, Social Dancing with Gerry and local meetings but there is always a buzz about the Hotel on Tuesdays. Our Bar Food is served until 9.15pm and it's reassuring you commend both the chef & service staff.
The point about the stained carpet is taken on board and I assure you the carpet is constantly cleaned ... cream carpets are lovely but stain easily ... hindsight is wonderful !!!

Again I thank you for your kind comment and hope to welcome you back to Dooly's Hotel soon.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen O' Connor
