I visit Ireland a few times in the year both for business and once for leisure. Tramore is one of my favourite spots and when staying in this state, I try stay in the Cliff House guesthouse. This was to be my second visit and it was a very nice stay. I met just the owner, Hilary, as Pat was away. She was very friendly and helpful, and most accommodating. She helped me arrange to get my luggage delivered to her home (my airline misplaced it) and was recommending all the nice places to eat.
I was in one of the balcony rooms, lucky enough to get some nice weather so the view was stunning. Its a nice spacious room, which is hard to come by in guesthouses - hotels are built to have bigger beds and rooms, guesthouses are generally smaller but this room was very nice and suited me perfectly. The rooms had a mini guest directory with maps of Tramore, the beach, and the townland surrounding. There was a nice brochure on the town which came in handy. Second visit to the town but a lot was changed.
Some lovely displays of Waterford Crystal throughout the house, including two chandeliers. I can never get over the amount of choices they have on the breakfast menu compared to a hotel and other guesthouses, but this time they had new items including "Tripe". We did have to pick a time for breakfast and make the order before morning, but I understand its due to the amount of choice and time it takes in preparing it. The lounge had some nice selection of beverages and snacks, including Tea & Coffee. Plenty of restaurant menus also.
Overall, still found this a very nice guesthouse on my second visit. In short, very friendly service, internet access (WiFi and Wired), big breakfast menu, private car park, large gardens, and nicely sized rooms.
There are some fantastic guesthouses in Ireland, I would strongly recommend people stay in these over hotels. Its different, but worth it in a lot of cases. Guesthouses are graded just like hotels, so you know what you are getting.
