“Great place, definitely be back!!”

Stayed here last weekend as i was attending a wedding nearby, we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, the setting was perfect and the food was excellent (price-wise and quality), in comparison to other hotels in the locality I must say the accommodation rates are minimal
(PS:Definitely reserve a table if you're planning on eating in the hotel to be sure of a table by the window!!)

“Sleepless in Rathmullan”

This was our first stay in the Waters Edge Hotel and found it to be small and quaint, overlooking Lough Swilly a beautiful location, upon checking in we were shown to our room which had a spectacular view over the Lough, very new and clean and decorated to a good 3* standard.
Evening meal in the restaurant was amazing, locally sourced food cooked to a very high standard, very impressive indeed, and the service was excellent. However the breakfast must have been prepared by a different chef altogether as this was highly disappointing - cold, over cooked and with poor service.
Sleeping (if you could call it that!!!) was rather difficult as there was noise continuiously throughout the night doors banging people talking, toilets flushing, I think the walls must have been constructed without any form of insulation or soundproofing. Also when we where checking out we were presented with a bill for £150 as opposed to the £130 advertised on the internet and on the reception desk - be weary not to get caught out!!!!!
By all means utilise the facilaties for dinnning but think twice about staying the night.

“Huge potential but little effort made”

My wife and I stayed here for one night in May 2011. Before arrival I'd asked for a spacious room, if available, with a bath in the ensuite. We got a relatively small room with a tiny (and I mean tiny bath). Perhaps this was a 'big' room. If so, I wouldn't like to see a small one.

The restaurant is absolutely stunning with fantastic views across Lough Swilly. The evening meal was fine, we were half-board, but spoiled a little by the waiter's stern warning that if we strayed from the set menu it was going to cost extra!! We had stayed in Arnold's in Dunfanaghy recently, also half-board, and their approach was 'pick what you want from the menu.’ The Water's Edge could learn a lesson.

Breakfast. Mine was cremated and my wife's was OK. When I finally got the waitress's attention to point this out she offered me a replacement but, by this time, my wife had almost finished so I declined. On check-out I said that our stay had been OK but that my breakfast was awful. Any decent hotel would have knocked something off the bill but not here.

One more point that other guests have mentioned. The tap water is very, very brown. Nothing wrong with that but some complimentary bottled water would have been nice.

Would I go back? Under new management ... probably.

“Relax and unwind”

Water's Adge has a stunning setting with magnificent views over Lough Swilly from both the restaurant and the bedroom. You are within feet of the water's edge.

The restaurant is light and airy and the food we had was really good. On the Tuesday night we took advantage of the set three course a la carte menu for 22.50 euros and on the Wednesday one for 24 euros. There were specials and other dishes available which cost less.

It is a family friendly place. When we were staying there there was also a large family gathering and family members staying over for a few days from Scotland.

The bedroom was spotless. It was a modest size but had everthing you would expect. We slept in a room right beside the restaurant and were not disturbed by noise. Nor did we hear the entertainment in the bar.

You enter Water's Edge via the bar and our accommodation was accessed through the restaurant (probably the result of extensions). When we arrived the girl at reception was a bit lacksadaisical. That put us off a bit at the start but we were impressed with the room, the food and everything else and would like to return again.

Rathmullan has a pier and is the place from where the Earls took flight hundreds of yeara ago. There is a great statue to commemorate same. Rathmullan beach is fantastic. At low tide we were able to walk it and reach Kinegar Beach; a walk of about 40 minutes or so on sand, with terns dive bombing the sea beside us.

“Hugely Disappointing”

My husband and I went to stay at Waters Edge for the weekend to celebrate his 40th Birthday but we wished we'd stayed at home. Sold as the ‘Unwind for the Weekend’ deal; this couldn’t have been further from the truth.

There was no 'check in' on arrival, we were just given a key, pointed towards a door and told to find the room. The room we were given seemed fine and the view was lovely, however we later discovered it was beneath the restaurant. This was OK in the evenings as noise was to be expected but when banging and crashing began in earnest at 6:30am with furniture being scrapped across the floor above and empties thrown into bins outside, we were not best pleased. There seemed to be absolutely no consideration that their guests might want to lie in beyond 6:30am on a Sunday morning. To add to our discontent, the bed was uncomfortable and we were only given one set of towels on our 2nd morning and despite putting in a request, this was not rectified. One of the reasons we chose the venue was because of the recommendations of the food, but this was disappointing too. For our evening meal on the Saturday night we were seated next to a large and loud family table, when they knew we were celebrating a special birthday together. We asked to be moved and had to wait a further half hour before being seated despite plenty of vacant tables. In addition we had told them in advance of a food allergy, but no one we spoke to knew anything about it and we had to shop for ourselves, bringing our own food to the breakfast on the Sunday morning.

Lovely location but certainly not the restful weekend we were looking forward to. Unfortunately a 40th birthday stay to be remembered for all the wrong reasons!
