“Beautiful House and a nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2006

The house was beautifully decorated, including the room. The grounds were really lovely, the view unbeatable and the innkeeper very nice. It was a little hard to find as street signs are not very previlant in Ireland, but we found it! ;o)

The shower was the tiniest in all of Ireland, but understand that they did the best they could to convert an older home into a B&B with en suite amenities. My husband and I have a "when in Rome" travel attitude so little bothers us. We did however have a good laugh when the other was showering and would drop the shampoo bottle 3-4 times. But really, it was okay . . . did the trick and we ended up clean as a whistle . . . so what more can you ask for.

The breakfast was pretty good . . . it felt weird ordering our b-fast for the next day upon arrival, but it was nice when it was served.

Also, the Hill house must be named for it's location as it's on top of a hill. We didn't realize the walk back from the pub would be so long or steep. Not that we can't use the exercise, but it could be a concern for those travelers who truly do have trouble walking, etc.

All in all, it was a nice stay and we would consider staying here again if in the area.

  • Liked — Decor of B&B and room
  • Disliked — steep hill and tiny shower
  • Tips/Secrets — put on your hiking boots as you'll work off the pints & shower strategically

“Bucolic georgian Guesthouse”

Excellent Guesthouse in a beautiful location. My husband and I were on our first driving foray into Ireland and it was our first stop after 3 days in Dublin. The home was beautiful and spacious and from our room you could see the "rock". Our bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept great. The grounds are fantastic and well maintained. Would highly recomment here. The rock of cashel is an awe-inspiring site.

“Beautiful and Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2006

Hill House, in Cashel, was absolutely beautiful. We stayed 2 nights, and both were fabulous. Carmel and her family are wonderful hosts, doing everything possible to ensure your happiness as their guest.

My room was well-appointed and comfortable, with a lovely view of the roses and yards below. The bathroom was spacious and equipped with all of the comforts of home.

My parents' room was beautiful, with a huge bed and a lovely canopy of fabric around it.

The house has beautiful artwork and decor, and wood floors and high ceilings. Breakfast is served around a long table, encouraging you to talk to other guests and get to know them, and to linger awhile over coffee and tea. Pancakes are offerd, which we found nowhere else, and after so many egg variation, we jumped at something different!

I loved Hill House, and Carmel was wonderfully kind and gracious.

“Gorgeous Georgian home, warm welcoming hostess”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2006

We had a wonderful stay during a cold and rainy March week in March 2006. HillHouse owner, Carmel Purcell made us warm, cozy and comfortable in every way. Rain or shine, the view of Cashel Rock outside our beautiful bedroom window was magnificent; the lovely fire at day's end in the sitting room was so inviting and our young daughter Kayle, is still talking about the "best pancakes she ever had" for breakfast in the bright and elegant dining room.
Cashel itself is an inspiring bit of Ireland, and Carmel has given much care to the tasteful restoration of this historic and stylish Georgian house on the hill. She is a warm and welcoming hostess making guests feel so much at home with her humor and accomodating kindness. We very much look forward to a return visit and hope to be able to send many friends her way.

“Hill House and its owner are delightful.”

Hill House and its owner Carmel Purcell are both a delight. My wife and I stayed three nights during April, 2006 and wished we could have spent more time. The house, grounds and surrounding areas are beautiful. The house, warmly restored and tastefully appointed, affords spectacular views of the Rock of Cashel. We found the owner, Carmel Purcell to be an attentive and engaging hostess, a person with the true Irish charm. In the evenings before we went out to dinner, we would spend some time in the Great Drawing Room perusing some of the many old books. Mrs. Purcell would often join us and speak about the history of the house which we found fascinating. If you go to Cashel stay at the Hill House for another reason. You can get to anywhere in Cashel within minutes.
