“Just ok”

Stayed here for the coursing festival. Its was very overpriced and raising rates as much as they did compared to there normal rates was a sickener for me.I was travelling with a group that wanted to stay there as it is their annual holiday so I bowed to peer pressure.A room was nearly double the price it normally was and you could only book for a 3 night package.
Breakfast was fine without being fantastic.

I ate in the resturant twice during my stay and the carvery was fine. I got sirloin steak the second night and it was a bit of a fiasco trying to order it. I went to the food area and the chef told me I had to order it at the bar. I went to the bar and the barman said this is the bar go to the chef in the food area. i went back to the chef in the food area and he said no go to the bar!. At that stage I said what the hell is going on here!I then went to a lady who was standing at a till and the matter finally got sorted. When the steak arrived I was not impressed with it. I though the cut of meat was poor and the entrees poor also. Lettuce and tomato with a sirloing steak on the same plate for me with two large onion rings just dont marry well and it just cheap plate filler.

Entertainment at night was blaring and again not sure if it worked at all. all it meant was people had to shout to hear one another.

The smoking area was also very poorly maintained and quite dirty. The heating out there is also not well distributed and needs to be looked at. your either roasting or freezing...

The rooms are standard room and were adequate.Showing videos of the coursing in the rooms was a plus. The were clean and well maintained..

Room Tip: All rooms are the same really and there is not mangnificent views from any room more than the next..

“Fun for a quick family break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Our family of 5 were allowed in a room together - this isn't always the case with a 'family' room so we were thrilled (the things that make us parents happy!). We had a room with a double bed and a twin bed, and two portable twins were brought in. It was tight, but not uncomfortable, and we just sat on the beds when we were in the room. The beds and pillows were all comfortable.

Our room was clean and in good repair. Bathroom was mold free and the grout was clean, there was no dust on the window casings and the drapes were clean. This is a big contrast to another hotel in this chain we stayed in last year. Carpet in our room and the hall needs to be replaced though.

The pool and gym area are quite nice. The locker rooms are in great shape with shower curtains on the shower stalls in the ladies locker room (usually I don't find that here in Ireland). Hair dryers were there to use, and the lockers use a 2euro coin that is returned when you return your key.

We ate dinner in the Wheat Bar. Food was fine. Huge portions, we wished we'd known that before we ordered. My husband ordered the Chicken Curry and it could have easily fed two people as it was made with at least two huge chicken breasts. The child's meal of sausage and chips gave us 3 large sausages, way more than a 4 year old could eat. I'm not complaining, just sharing the info in case readers are looking to share a meal. The food prices were silly--almost 18euro for a cheese burger with chips but only about 12 for fish and chips. We ate there anyway, paying for the convenience of not having to drive anywhere else, but I wouldn't eat there on a return trip. It was fine for the one night. Note: There is a KFC in the adjoining parking lot to the hotel as well as a big Supervalue grocery store for other food options.

Breakfast was included in our rate. It was sausages, rashers, potoatoes, tomatoes, powdered scrambled eggs (no thanks), puddings, choices of cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast and sweet buns. Juices, coffee that wasn't half bad and tea were options to drink. We all found something to eat, and the quality was fine.

We were happy with the choice of hotel. The staff were all friendly and seemed happy to be at work. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we were in the area and were able to get another great rate for the 5 of us with breakfast.

“Great place for New Year Party.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Travelled here as part of a large family group to bring in the New Year 2011/12 and stayed 2 nights. Room was large and comfortable but an unusual layout left little storage space. Leisure facilities were very good and staff were extremely helpful.
Hotel is located close to shops and a KFC for those wishing to snack outwith the hotel, and the town centre is only about 1 Km away.
The New Year Ball was very well run and it was no fault of the hotel that the band's lead singer had lost his voice. The live music was not as good as a result, but at least they still turned up. Th DJ livened things up after the bells and great night was had by all. The residents lounge remained opened all night and the staff were sympathetic with late checkouts.
All in all very good for this type of event.

A very nice hotel with very friendly staff. Unfortunately, the toilets in the main hotel were not very clean with stains under all the urinals
