We spent the 1st weekend in February at the Carrickdale. We tried to book some spa treatments the week before but were told that they were fully booked that weekend which probably should have given us an indication of how busy the hotel would be. We were checked in quickly and with the minimum of fuss and headed off to our room, we booked one of the executive suites based on reviews of people who had booked standard rooms. The room was quite large with a king size bed (not two singles pushed together as can often be the case) and the bathroom was beautiful with a large Jacuzzi size bath. The room was on the second floor with a view overlooking the road, the double glazing kept the room perfectly quiet and the blackout curtains were fantastic. The hotel had three conferences on the weekend we were there but that did not in any way interfere with the level of service we received. The food in the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) was very nice and you wouldn't go hungry based on the amount of potatoes and veg provided. The leisure centre is across the road but can be reached via an underpass directly from the hotel, just one word of warning, I found the steps very slippy and nearly had a bad fall as a result, it might have been my footwear as my wife had no such problems. The leisure centre was well run and clean and we used it quite a bit as the weather was very wet that weekend. The bar was very busy and certain sections were quite load but there was plenty of couches in the large lobby which was much quieter. All in all we had a very relaxing weekend and will return hopefully to drier weather as the surrounding countryside is beautiful.”
