Like the reviewer below we were placed DIRECTLY above the band. This didn't bother us the first night, as we were in the bar until 1:30, when the band stopped. The second night however was a different story. We went to bed around 12:30, and expected the band to end around 1:30 again, but at half two, and with no end in sight we rang down to request a room move. We were told that the band wold be finishing "Shortly", so we stayed put. At 3:00 am and with no sign of "Amhrain na Bhfiann" being played, we rang down again and said we wanted to move. "I'll call you back" was the "professional" response, and after a few min the music ended, and the awaited phone call came, "It's finished now, do you still want to move?" Obviously we stayed put.
What has really annoyed me about this incident was the treatment the following morning on checking out. I was annoyed at the night staffs treatment of us, and our extremely legit complaint, but I am a reasonable person (or at least I like to think so!). One persons poor people skills should not ruin it for the rest. As we were checking out I raised the issue of the noisy room. The hotel was in no way full, and in my opinion it should be the last room filled on a Friday or Saturday night. We had on booking requested a non-smoking room. The Manager dealing with us on checking out made no comment to us re our experience the night before. i raised the issue that it was not good practice to place guests in the nosiest room in the hotel, when other quieter rooms were vacant. the Managers response "You wanted a non smoking room, and they are all in that section". Again saying that we should at least have been given the option the response was "Take it up with the Manager". No apology was offered, no offer of compensation nothing. (I did take it up, and to date have had no response)
Apart from the dreadful customer service, the room we were in was dated and in need of refurbishment, had a view of a roof, and was stuffy. The quality of the food was ok, but as a 2nd sitting for breakfast the table we sat at was a state, and had not been cleaned properly. we had opted for room service the 2nd morning, and it was delivered on time, and was lovely.
It is the only hotel in Dromahair. But I will be exhausting the B&B options in the area before I go back to it. It is a pity as it has a lot of potential, and is in an excellent location in a beautiful part of the country.
