We were married here last summer and been meaning to write a review ever since.
I can't say enough good things about the place, the staff and the treatment our guests and my wife and I received. All in all the choice to host our wedding here was absolutely the right one and made our special day even more so. If you are considering your wedding here then consider no more and just book before someone else books the date you want!
It's a very classy venue out in the Cork countryside (unfortunately a bit too far out of the way if you want to see anything but the hotel iself) and we were initially worried about about it being too "snotty" but from the first visit there wasn't a hint of that and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The fully-equipped, spacious, spottlessly clean, self catering lodges are great value and a perfect accompaniment for our friends and family down for a few days where the (admittedly expensive) hotel would push the budget too far. Only a short walk from the hotel round the edge of the golf course they offer full access to the hotel facilities included (pool, bikes, wi-fi - even i the lodges...etc) and, at the slightest hint of rain, the hotel staff will gladly offer you a lift up to them.
If the lodges are nice, however, the hotel rooms are just luxurious! The hotel is split into a few Manor Rooms in the old, original part of the hotel and the more modern rooms in the newer part with the relaxing pool and spa in between. Would gladly stay in either rooms when we next visit!
The grounds are beautiful, especially on a summer's day enjoying either a round of golf, or a leisurely walk (or cycle!) through the gardens, past the old castle, the horses and river and then into town.
For the wedding itself, we admittedly did take over the hotel bar, and the patio area for a couple of hours on the day itself which might annoy you if you're a separate guest at the hotel, but for dinner and onwards we were moved out of the way to the conference room at the other end of the hotel so shouldn't imagine it's too much of an issue. The wedding room was made up beautifully with numerous small touches on the tables and we recevied a lot of compliments on the both the wine and all the food.
And so, to the best thing about the place - the service and the staff! Despite being overwhelmed the beauty of the place, and our wedding itself (hopefully!) all our guests made special mention to us about how welcomed and looked after they felt by the hotel and how friendly and accomodating the staff were. All dealings with Sian and Jackie before the day were very professionally handled with seemingly nothing being too much effort - despite my (now) wife's best intentions to monopolise all their time for the slightest change in our plans as the day drew closer :-) This level of service was also apparent in literally everyone else throughout our stay - from the ladies who helped organise our round of golf, to the waiters and waitresses, bar staff and managers (Andrew and his deputies) and the younger staff in the club house - everyone was amazing!
Maybe we were treated extra specially well because of our wedding there, or maybe we're seeing the hotel through rose tinted glasses because of our special time there and our Wedding guests are just being polite to us, but our previous visits to Castlemartyr and the other reviews here, suggest it really is as good as we thought!
Many thanks to Castlemartyr for everything they did on the day and looking forward to returning in the not too distant future to enjoy the facilities as a regular guest.
