“Not a good experience”

I hadn't planned on staying in Bantry but I was tired, it was late and the lights on my bike weren't great. I'd paid my money before I saw the interior. Quite shocking! The decore had not been touched in 30 years and had an air of the doss house about it. The living room had furniture that would have been better off on the tip. I ate out that night as the cooking facilities were dirty, old food in the fridge and chipped plates. Do these places ever get checked by the health authorities? So depressing! I was outta there at first light the following morning. No wonder I was the only resident that night. Cheap, it was, but also nasty.

“so filthy I was afraid to touch anything; chewing gum stuck in filthy carpets”

Ok this is in a great location overlooking the harbour which is why I booked in. It was getting late and I was tired and didn't pay too much attention until I had paid and was actually inside. Everywhere was so filthy. It really was just a doss house. So glad I brought my own sheetbag with me. I made a cup of tea but everything was so filthy in the kitchen, that was about as far as I got. Old stuff from previous victims left lying around everywhere, toothbrushes, socks, etc. The place should be closed down at once

“What an absolute dump!!”

I never stay in hostels ever. I would always choose a nice hotel over a hostel but in this case it was a stag/bachelor night so I did not have the luxury of choosing the accomodation. As I never stay in hostels I do not know what to base my experiences on.

The owner is a rude woman and oblivous to our concern about the condom wrapper she was leaning on. We had two rooms, one with two bunks and the other with 5 bunks. Thin matresses, thin duvet covers and even thinner pillows. The paint is cracking, the plaster is cracking and there is a flurry of carpet designs everywhere as though she has been collecting odds and ends over the years. The is a communal area downstairs with a kitchenette and living room area with a TV.

There is one mens toilet and one womens toilet upstairs which are of course shared by the entire hostel. The mens toilet is dirty, very very very dirty so I avoided the shower.

She refused to give us the code to the front door until the last two arrived and paid her. I thought this was odd considering the front door was open anyway. It just added to the experience.

It is a good location right on the square with lots of free parking outside.

Its dirty so I would not recommend staying there. If you are strapped for cash there was 14 of us and we all paid €13 each. So what can you expect for that money?

  • Liked — I suppose the €13 price
  • Disliked — Filth of the Place

“Don't bother booking, it's not worth the paper it's written on”

7 friends and I went to Cork for 4 days and were having a great time until Saturday morning when it started to rain very heavily all day. We had booked the hostel by phone two weeks previously. But when we arrived we were told that it was double booked because a family had decided to stay on a few extra days. To cut a long story short, we spent the next 6 hours trying to find a hostel, bed and breakfast or hotel to stay in without any luck at all.
We didn't receive any apology from the hostel owner, we didn't even receive a courtesy phone call to tell us it was overbooked . We found out when we turned up! If the owner had the common decency to phone us, we would have had time to find somewhere else to stay. I will never stay in that hostel we were treated very very badly. If you wan t to go to Bantry, don't rely on a booking at this hostel!
