“Secluded and stunning”

Stayed three nights and would have liked to stay longer. We arrived in heavy rain and the long, narrow winding road was a bit of a challenge at first but it was well worth it. Luckily for us the sun came out next day and we could appreciate the stunningly beauitiful setting. Amazing views of sea, mountains, forest and farmland. The guest house is perfectly situated and is very comfortable, cosy and well equipped -great stereo system, lots of books, CDs and DVDs to choose from. Sue and Roger showed us some fantastic walks on their farm and gave us great advice on walks in the area. This is a brilliant area to visit if you like walking. Sue and Roger are great hosts, full of local information and very welcoming and helpful. Delicious breakfasts and we also enjoyed an evening meal on our first evening. Our hosts recommended some good local restaurants ( 15 to 30 mins drive) which we really enjoyed. We hope to visit again some time as this is a really special and memorable place.

“Remote paradise for those wanting a wonderful respite.”

This is a superb place IF YOU LIKE: REMOTE, green countryside, wonderful views, quiet, and nature...I loved it ...it is a one room stone cottage that is cozy and charming...Roger and Sue are the best hosts possible..Sue's breakfasts are fantastic: fresh and delicious! I came home with their homemade honey from their own bees and am sorry that I did not bring back her most special blackberry jam. They are the most delightful couple with a wealth of information. The towns nearby are adorable and there is plenty to keep you busy during the day...or just hang out with the view, the burros and the cattle...It's a piece of heaven on earth.

Room Tip: Fabo view from the one room.

“A place of splendid isolation and serenity.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

As others have said, Ballyroon is in a beautiful spot and both the cottage and the hosts (Roger and, especially, Sue) are first rate. The dinner and breakfasts were special, since everything was locally grown and well prepared.

Although a number of miles from Bantry (over roads that are, shall we say, often challenging) it is well worth the effort, especially if you are seeking a special outdoor adventure spot. The Sheepshead Peninsula itself is well worth exploring. Overall, a memorable experience.

“True Ireland beauty!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

We only stayed at the Bothy for 2 nights and then traveled on to Cork City, but we wished we would have stayed longer! It is so beautiful and unspoiled and the bothy is adorable. Sue & Roger were great. Breakfast was delicious, Sue is a great cook. We had dinner there as well one evening and it was amazing, almost everything produced on the farm. We were so glad we took the walk to the lighthouse, gorgeous views. We would love to go back again someday! If you drive there, follow the directions Sue & Roger provide! If you want to get away from it all - this really is the place to go. The only sound is the remote baaing of sheep!

“Amazing in Every Way”

Aside from the absolutely stunning and breath-taking views of ballyroon, the 36 acre farm on which the little cabin (Ballyroon Mountain B&B) is situated on is a truly magical and enchanted place. With an abundance of bodies of flowing water, creeks and streams, misty fairy-tale like forests under a canopy of huge trees, wide open fields, rolling hills alongside rocky cliffs with beautiful waterfalls, even farm animals like pigs and donkeys- anyone and everyone will find some aspect of this beautiful little hidden secret absolutely astonishing, if not all of it! The little cabin itself is adorable. It is a good distance away from the host's main home to ensure privacy and secludedness. The cabin is meticulously clean and convenient with all necessary ammenities- even wellies are provided upon arrival in whatever size you may need! The overly sweet and friendly farm dog Shep is sure to win your heart, as will the deliciously cooked customized breakfast in the morning. The hikes are incredible (and very easy to do!), the near-by towns very cute and friendly, and the Ballyroon Mountain B&B and Roger and Sue themselves are really great. The hosts know the area well and can give you different walks/hikes to try out depending on your ability and desires- and will even pick you up or drop you off when necessary. I couldnt have asked for anything more in my 2 days there and would not have changed a thing. I highly highly recommend this place for either a cool adventerous fun and romantic getaway for a couple, a few friends who want to explore an untouched and beautiful part of ireland, or a loner seeking peace and calm for whatever reason.
