We all had a great time in Clonakilty and this wonderful B&B and the lovely family running it made our stay so special. Thanks to all the O'Briens for your hospitality. The kids and ourselves had such a fab time! Well done on your beautiful gardens and home. Have already reccommended you to friends.

Melrose B&B is a real treat, so many lovely surprises. There are not only apple and pear trees, but also a lemon tree in the garden. And the hosts grow lots of their own vegetables & fruit. Fantastic!
Breakfast was amazing too, truely delicious. What a week we had!
Clonakilty is a gem in West Cork too, nice people and great food and drink. Of course the scenary & beaches are outstanding too.

  • Liked — Everything was so lovely it's hard to chose - If I had to pick a top 3 id say; The homecooked food, beautiful gardens, and pretty design of the rooms

“The Best Yet!”

Such a great B&B-brilliant hospitality, location, food & rooms!
We couldnt have asked for more. In all the hotels or B&B's ive stayed in Melrose is my favourite. I will be holidaying in west cork again and will certainly return here. The breakfast was beyond expectations, our hosts couldnt do enough for us, we really felt at home and loved the town of Clonakilty. We stayed for 4 days and decided to taste a variety of the menu. I had a full Irish the first morning (yum!), scrambled eggs with bacon the next, continental the third morning, & kippers the last morning. All the food was superb and especially the home-made brown bread (it was the nicest ive tasted. Anyone in West Cork should try the famous Clonakilty Black Pudding :)
The room I stayed in was so pretty and had a peaceful veiw over the gardens at the back of the house. Inside and out this B&B is a colourful and delightful place to stay. I have to comment on the lovely gardens with such a variety of flowers and colour. We will be back!

“Loved our Holiday”

I have just returned from holidays in West Cork and Kerry. My family and I toured the South of Ireland and Melrose B&B was by far the best place we stayed. We got I lovely welcome and my too kids were thrilled with the garden and freedom they had outside. We slept in a family bedroom which was a nice size and very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was great and everyones tastes were catered for. I particularly enjoyed my Irish breakfasts as they were grilled fresh in the morning and very tasty! We were very lucky with the weather in West Cork duringour holiday. The beaches and scenery around the area and also inKerry were beautiful. This B&B has a relaxed feel about it and it was a pleasure to stay here. Clonakilty is a friendly and enjoyable town with lots of quirky shops and things to do in nice weather. I would reccommend taking time to visit the little villages around Clonakilty too. We found Courtmacshery and rosscarbary very nice.

“What A Gem!”

I have just returned to the states after an awesome vacation in Ireland. The highlight of my break was this lovely B&B in west cork and the fabulous service we received. I stayed with my wife and another couple at a very reasonable price. Our rooms were so sweet and spotless clean. The color scheme of the rooms is so good and very unique. We got a delicious breakfast to fill us up for the day. Everything was so fresh!
Melrose is close to the town centre but in a peaceful district so we had a really relaxing time. The gardens and flowers around the house are beautiful and our hosts made us feel 'at home'. I will definetly be returning with my wife as soon as we can!

“very nice and good quality, friendly and great breakfast”

I thought the decor of our room and en-suite was really nice and modern. The room was spotless clean and we were given plenty towels, tea and coffee, hairdryer and all the little extras that make a break away special.

On arrival the lady of the house and her husband were very friendly and gave us information on all the local places to go. There is also plenty of parking at the back and a lovely outdoor area (even though it was too nippy to be outside!)

A folder full of information and suggested daytrips was in our room and we found this of great help and a lovely personal touch.

Last but not least..the breakfast was the best i've ever had. It was all fresh and really really tasty and the B&B owner made sure we had enough of everything. Of all the hotels, B&Bs and places ive been on holiday i would rank Melrose in my top 5 for quality, comfort, fantastic food and helpful, friendly hosts.

  • Liked — breakfast and the service
  • Disliked — not big rooms like in hotels but fine for a B&B
  • Tips/Secrets — ask the owners about good places to visit, eat in etc. they gave us loads of info
