“Quaint, Homely and Inexpensive”

We fancied an overnight break to Bakewell and Buxton and I struggled to find reasonably priced accommodation and after spending hours searching the internet finally found 2 Lumford Cottages.

I’m glad we did because it was perfect for us. The price was £50 for the room for one night which was considerably cheaper than anything else I found.

I was a bit concerned that it might be a mistake but as we only wanted a bed for the night I chanced it.

We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly couple who were chatty and charming. We were shown to our room which I think was the only room available for rent in this family home. The first thing that struck me was that it was extremely cosy and comfortable and then I noticed the beautiful view from the window (see photo).

We were given a set of keys and told to do our own thing and not to worry about when to come back.

We had a private bathroom next to the bedroom which was spacious and clean and included a bath and shower.

Breakfast was served to us in the bedroom which was a bit strange but as it turned out was lovely because we ate our custom made breakfast at a small table under the window and taking in the view of the river at the bottom of the garden.

Breakfast was ordered the evening before and we were offered a full English with an optional Bakewell Oat Cake (I tried it and it was very tasty), cereal and toast with a large jug of OJ and plenty of tea and coffee.

I’m surprised that this B&B is not already on here and not mentioned on other sites, it is a charming house with great hospitality and wonderful views and only a short walk from Bakewell town centre.

Highly Recommended.
