My partner and I stayed at the Blue Boar overnight as a stop off between Yorkshire and Portsmouth and to be honest we used a free voucher for the room but having stayed would certainly have paid the £70 some pound for the room. The room itself was fairly basic but very comfortable, it was clean, had the largest supply of tea, coffee, toiletries etc that I have ever seen in a hotel and the en suite was fine. We were in a room that was directly above the entrance to the pub and expected a bit of noise but there was none.
We ate an evening meal, partner had a meal from the bar menu and I had a couple of starters. The main meal was a little pricey at £11 for basic gammon and chips but the starters at £2.50 each were reasonable. The food was clearly cooked from frozen and certainly not haute cuisine if thats what your expecting, but filled a gap.
By far the best thing about the hotel were the staff. They were friendly, helpful and polite. Oliver and Gemma were wonderful, extremely welcoming and incredibly helpful, and the head chef was also gracious beyond expectation.
We both felt that this was a charming little hotel that we would recommend to friends and would have been happy to pay for if necassary.
