“Lovely B&B - bathroom a bit strange”

We stayed at Rockwood House last week. The house is in the lovely village of Embsay which is less than 10 mins drive from Skipton. Unfortunately for us, the weather was appalling so we couldn't go walking in the Dales. We were warmly welcomed by the owner of the B&B. The room was spacious and spotless. The only criticism is the ensuite bathroom. I think we must have had the same room as the other reviewer. The bathroom was tiny. So small that you could sit on the loo and put your feet in the shower. It also didn't have a ceiling - it was just partitioned off in the corner of the room. Very odd. I was travelling with my partner, but there was zero privacy and we all like to maintain a little mystery! In the end, I ended up wearing the iPod whilst he was in there and he did the same for me. Maybe we're a little precious, but this problem would be easily fixed by just putting a ceiling on the room! Also, the folding door had clear panes of glass so whoever was sitting on the bed could see you sitting on the loo...there goes the mystery again. Despite this, the room was very comfortable and the breakfast was very nice.

“Can this be the same guest house?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2010

We stayed at Rockwood House for one night and had no problems at all. The room was very pleasant and tastefully decorated and the bathroom facilities were very clean. The breakfast was very good and the owners were chatty and friendly.
The village has two good pubs which are both within walking distance of the Rockwood, and both serve food. The village served as a good base for the Yorkshire Dales. We could find no faults.

“Concerned”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

The room that was described as "en suite" was actually a double room with the corner partiti oned off - not even enclosed up to the ceiling which contained a tiny wash basin, toilet and shower. The shower cubicle sliding doors didn't open very wide so access was difficult, even for an average sized person. There was no ventilation in the room and the window was locked shut. As I was travelling with a friend, it was very embarrassing,if we needed to use the "facility".

I was also concerned about our safety as there was no fire exit and the window was locked shut., so there was no escape route.

There was no one around the next morning so we couldn't even get any milk for a cup of tea. There wasn't a resident's lounge to sit in, as the lounge was marked private.

On a positive note, the breakfast was very nice.

I got the impression that the owner didn't really want guests in her house and she did not make us feel welcome at all.

We paid £70 for one night and were really glad that we had only booked one night, as we wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer.

The photographs supplied by the reviewer are not from this property.
We live on the premises and give all our guests a warm welcome and hope to satisfy all their needs. Please read all our other reviews to satisfy yourselves.
We are available for contact all and every morning and evening, milk is supplied in rooms and extra supplies are available anytime. All guests receive a front door key as well as a room key.
Our windows do not lock, our washbasins, toilets and showers are all full sized with full opening doors and smoke alarms are fitted throughout the premises.
Perhaps the reviewer is reviewing a different property, I am concerned that no one has ever put any of these complaints to the owners either verbally or in black and white.
