We spent two nights here in July 08 using our Holiday Inn Priority Club points. The hotel is in Villeurbane, in the northeast part of Lyon, near La Doua University. In fact, there's a student housing complex attached to the hotel's building. Underground parking is 11 euros per night, and breakfast is, if I recall correctly, 13 euros. The rooms are typically small, but were clean and comfortable, with AC. The staff was very friendly and most helpful, including providing us with maps of Lyon, driving directions, and booking a taxi. Breakfast was quite good, except for the scrambled eggs, which were hideous. It's about a 20 minute walk to one of the loveliest parks we've seen - Parc de la Tête d'Or. It has wonderful walking paths, a gorgeous lake, a botanical garden, and a zoo. What a surprise to see giraffes in Lyon. There's a tram stop at La Doua which is a 5 minute walk to/from the hotel, which connects with the superb Lyon Metro. Around the corner from the hotel is a nice little pizza restaurant which served us a rather good pizza. I imagine it's crowded with students during the school year. Lyon is a delightful city -- Paris-esque, but on a much more accessible scale. The Metro/Tram takes you everywhere you want to go. Tip -- you have to have lunch at Brasserie Georges on Rue Verdun near the Parrache Station -- it's been there since 1836. It may be hard to find, but it's worth it. Budget about 60 euros for lunch for two, including wine, but I promise you won't be disappointed.
