“Nice Hotel in Great Little Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2008

Of course you cant judge a hotel on the basis of its complementary umbrellas but if you did the Closterhof would do very well. We needed them most of the time during our two days stay due to the weather but even the rain didnt detract from the charm of this hotel.

It's a fairly dull looking building from the outside but is well located just on the edge of the old part of this fantastically pretty town. It also backs onto the Rhein and our room faced directly on to it. It seems to be used for a lot of conferences and that makes it quite expensive during the week but they have very good packages at weekends that include some fantastic food.

Our saturday night meal was a five course affair and was simply superb! The other thing that sets the hotel out is the friendliness of the staff. Really everybody was all smiles all the time. It made a difference and after a couple fo very relaxing days with great food we left smiling too.

The hotel is expertly staffed with real professionals. The restaurant serves the best food in Switzerland. The rooms, location, parking are the best.

“very nice hotel, very good location”

We have just returned from 2 days at the Hotel Chlosterhof. The hotel is in a very nice location on the rhine and 2 minutes by foot to the old city center ,on a very quiet location. The room is nice and big with a lateral view to the rhine, all rooms have a balcony.
The breakfast is very good and you can eat in the garden in front of the rhine ,lovelly view and very romantic.

“Ugly outside, nice inside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2007

If you approach the town from the other side of the Rhine, you notice this ugly building between all the ancient ones. Well, that is the hotel. Once inside, it gets much better. Some rooms have balconies with Rhine views, others of the town. Stein am Rhein is a small town, so everything is in walking distance. The train station is on the other side of the river, a 15-minute walk. The hotel has a nice pool with daylight, not too small and not too cold. There is also a sauna and solarium. The hotel bar is strange indeed, with integrated dancefloor and disco lights. On that evening we were the only guests until some others arrived (it was around 10.30 p.m., what you would expect to be a typical hotel bar hour). Breakfast with a wide choice of everything, unusual range of newspapers with breakfast; at least 5 or 6 different ones.

Hotels seems to used a lot for seminars, they have lots of meeting rooms of different size, but nothing going on when we were there.

“Odd Hotel Odd location”

Very 80's from the "local Disco" inside the hotel to the pink and grey rooms, and so so restaurant. If you find yourself marooned in this little corner of Switzerland (it doesnt feel swiss, it could be anywhere) you could do worse. The in place to be ( when Duran Duran were No. 1 in the charts) but now you can see past its 1960's shoe factory origins. To sum up if you must do.. but really dont bother
