My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Hirschen this weekend as he was competing in the Ironman. The hotel owner was completely understanding of the competitors' needs, allowing bikes in the room, allowing my partner to cook his own porridge in their microwave and making sure that breakfast was available earlier than normally served on the Sunday.
I asked for a quiet room before leaving the UK and we were given a room at the top of the hotel and on the side (away from the square) - Room. 41. There was a little flight of stairs up into the main bedroom (which had to be negotiated with the bike without marking the white walls!) and the room was a little small, although it had a good area where my partner could lay out all his equipment and it was clean and functional. My only problem was that the mattress was very hard and the pillows on the thin side i.e. not much filling so I didn't sleep too well. The free entry to the Health Spa was a great bonus and much appreciated however.
It would have been nice to have had tea/coffee making facilities in the room as we spent quite a bit of time in there so my partner could rest (I sometimes think this should be a priority over the mini-bar!).
Breakfast was plentiful and is now in a room within the hotel (not in the McDonalds). The location is superb and we ate every day (lunch & dinner) at 10 Diechi across the square. However, there are plenty of lovely restaurants in the town.
We'll be back there again next year!
