“Zurich is expensive, but the hotel is nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

The hotel is located a short drive from the airport in a quiet little town.

I was upgraded upon a arrival to the Executive suite, which is nice, spacious. The decor is a little dted, but no big deal. One of the only downsides to the room were the paper thin walls...you could hear many things from the room next door, many things I didn't need to hear...

The restaurnats on site are very expensive. For the dinner buffet on the first night it would have been 75 CHF. Breakfast is 26 CHF and I was not there during lunch hours. There are a number of restaurants in the area that are a little less expensive, but overall this is just a pricey area to visit so you might as well just try to enjoy it.

The staff were all very pleasant. Most spoke English very well. I had a bit of trouble with the TV/DVD player in the room, they weren't able to help me, but I figured it out after some time.

One nice thing for those travelling on Business is they do have DVD's at the front desk in English, just have to ask for them. There is only 1 station in English otherwise (CNN Worldwide).

While you are here be sure to drive in to Zurich and see some of the old town and River. The cobblestone roads and paths are lots of fun to walk around!

“Spacious, Spotless, Reasonably Priced”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

Switzerland is expensive. The Big Mac Index says its currency is overvalued by 60%. That’s like paying a 60% “Heidi Tax” on every sandwich or train ticket you buy. That being said, the Trend is a good deal — an amazingly good deal, actually — so long as you’re careful about extras. More on that later.
We rented an apartment with its own kitchen. It was spacious by Swiss standards, with a small balcony. The trees behind the building made it feel quite private. All the furnishings looked and felt new. There was a stove, an oven, but no dishwasher; the management supplied a microwave oven on request. Coin-operated washers and dryers, with a large indoor area to hang clothes, were in the basement (though the machines are difficult to program for those who don’t speak German).
The location is off the beaten path, northwest of Zurich and away from the lake, but that is no doubt what makes it possible to have affordable yet very comfortable lodgings in a city where vacation rentals can be breathtakingly expensive. The train station is 7 minutes away by foot; from there it’s an 18 minute train ride to the main train station in Zurich, which is next to a hub of the city transit system. The Regensdorf trains run every half hour during the day and every hour (or more often) nights and weekends. Thanks to the amazing Swiss railroad system you can be in Basel or Bern or Luzern in under two hours after leaving your apartment; you can be in almost any major town in Switzerland within three or four hours.
By car it’s two minutes to the freeway. The airport is 15 minutes away. It’s a five minute walk to a large grocery store.
Given what everything costs in Switzerland, it must be hard for management to break even on these apartments. That’s where the extras come in. They can add up fast. Don’t touch that “Mini-Bar,” those tempting drinks and sweets that have been thoughtfully placed in your refrigerator and cabinet; for every item you consume, 3 to 5 francs will be added to your bill. (When we visited, Swiss Francs were just short of being equivalent to a dollar.) Maid service carries a sizable extra charge, which may contribute to sticker shock at the end of your stay if you don’t specifically ask to go without it, or ask for it once a week only. And then there’s the restaurant. It offers a wide array of choices in a range of cuisines. But for every item there’s a separate charge, and those can add up to a very costly meal. The teppanyaki grill offers crocodile, zebra, or springbok, but we never did sample any of them. When we did use the restaurant, we chose our orders with careful attention to the price; to the staff’s credit, they were very gracious and friendly despite our miserliness. The breakfast buffet offered an amazing selection of Swiss baked goods, cheeses, meats, and many other delicacies. Being Swiss myself, I engaged in some intensive negotiations on the first day about the price (which was a bit ambiguous), but in the end we got a very satisfactory deal on the daily breakfast buffet. (I’d suggest paying close attention to the figures on the rental contract you receive in advance, and bringing a copy with you.) The dining room staff was welcoming, friendly, and pleasant throughout.
Management initially provided only a minimal amount of kitchen supplies (such as plates, glasses, and silverware). With these it would have been impossible to prepare our own food, forcing us, presumably, to eat in the restaurant. To make matters worse, the microwave oven had a plug that was incompatible with Swiss sockets, requiring a converter plug (which I was able to obtain from the front desk). When I complained I got a generous supply of all the kitchenware we needed.
Wireless internet service had to be purchased online, for about 7 francs a day per computer, from a Swiss provider. Parking was 15 francs a day.
The bottom line is that the apartment was very comfortable, and we found the location quite convenient. The breakfast buffets were superb. But we had to be prepared to negotiate and to watch extra expenditures to stay on budget. Our stay at the Trend was very enjoyable, and we’ve already made plans to stay there again in two years.

“Short stay in Regensdorf”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2010

Came here for a two day workshop and stayed one night. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station, so that was handy. The hotel is a typical BW, however, at the upper end of some I have stayed at in the past. The room, inside the main building, was large and clean, however, the decor was a little dowdy and dated, The bed was not the most comfortable that I have slept on, with a split mattress and a large join in the middle. The TV in the room was an old (small) CRT and not the modern large LCD that is found in most hotels these days.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the whole hotel was exceptionally clean. The food in the restaurant was of "buffet style" but of a very good standard and quality. While we were there they had the world cup theme and there was food/meat from South Africa which was cooked fresh on the griddle. The breakfast is also very good with plenty of choice.

The hotel was a good place to hold a workshop and we were catered for very well by the staff.

The main disadvantage of the hotel, if you were to use it as a place to stay is that it is in the middle of nowhere, so there is not a lot to do outside of the hotel.

The stay was comfortable and enjoyable. I would consider staying here again, but doubt if I would ever need to unless on a workshop etc. Consideration would have to be given, if you are staying in Zurich, as to the benefit of staying here against another hotel in the centre.

We always respect all comments and proposals as these help us to improve and control our services. but we have to clarify that the guest DID BOOK AN APARTMENT by Expedia/Venere AND NOT A ROOM and we have done this booking for a discounted rate
The showers of the apartments have a sice of 1.2 m x 1 m and are no cabins but constructed

The main restaurant has been closed due to public holiday but the BuenaVista Restaurant & bar has been open for a la carte.

“Bland hotel in industrial-agrarian suburb of Zurich.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

Functional but bland hotel in the Regensdorf/Watt suburb of Zurich.
The room I stayed in was a studio-like suite, with kitchen, including full-size refridgerator, stove and over, a large balcony, large bathroom, good closet space, a queen sized-simple bed, plus a relaxing lounge chair and TV.
The room itself is like most hotels in switzerland: spartan, clean, functional. Nothing was especially comfortable. Nothing was beautiful. And despite the name, nothing was "trendy".
The staff was friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was probably the best part (which is rare in switzerland): large offering of many different options, including fruits, yogurts, pastries/breads, hot eggs/bacon/sausages, and made-to-order hot plates. Was a great way to start the day with a full stomach before working at the office nearby.
The s-bahn commuter rail is only a 5min walk away and will put you in the center-station of Zurich in 15-20min. However, it does stop around midnight, with less frequent service overnight (or night-bus), so not a good option if you wish to be out late in Zurich.
