“Good hotel, a bit expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I have been staying in this hotel several times since 2005. General impression is good. It had belonged to the famous ‘Steigenberger’ group of hotels, however not any more, since an insurance company has recently bought it, keeping the name intact. Hence the manner of the personnel, it has changed towards somewhat neutral, without, so to say, refined respect to guests.. Apart from this, the hotel itself is up to the level; with abound breakfast and rather good spa area including swimming pool. Nice landscaped park surrounds the hotel. Rooms are good and clean. A flat panel Samsung TV set is in my room with two HD broadcast channels. Wireless Internet is available at the lobby area only (free of charge). The connection is stable and speed is about 133 kilobyte per second. In the room there is a cable connection (also free with the same speed). Vodafone provider has here very good reception (clocked 5.9 Mbit/sec on my android smartphone). I would have given 5 stars to the hotel, but the price of my room stopped me from doing it; Euro 190 (plus a small Kurort tax) for single occupancy (in a double room in a country side hotel) is way too high, also considering my frequent quest status.

Dear NicolasAlnis,
thank you very much for your detailed review. Your comments will be taken into our service quality check. The hotel still belongs to the Steigenberger Hotel Group and has been a franchise ever since 2001. That is why the building itself is not owned by the group.
We are looking forward to seeing you again soon,
Best regards,
Steigenberger Hotel Der Sonnenhof

“This problem has huge wireless connectivity problems unfortunately...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

If you are using iPhone or / and iPad like me, I can assure you that you will have big problems about the internet connectivity. Wireless internet is available supposedly only around the lobby area but my experience has shown me that if you are not immediately in front of the reception desk the signals get lost very quickly. As I am a person who needs to be constantly connected to the internet because of my business, this seemingly nice hotel's problems about the wireless connectivity really surprised me to a great deal, especially considering the fact that they claim tone a 5 star hotel.

Restaurant has an excellent, highly talented young cook and a very enthusiastic waiter named Andrea but the wine selection is poor for a 5 star hotel and the menu should have included more varieties, especially form the Mediterranean Kitchen. The reception should be more enthusiastic about knowing and recommending good restaurants outside of the premises. The use of inexperienced young trainees during check out may make you miss your flight. The lack of a proper air-conditioning system was also a great surprise to me which I only have noticed after a 33 degrees of hot weather during my stay there. May be German laws do not require to have an air conditioning for 5 stars hotel, I don't know this. What I know is that staying in a hot room with 33 degrees is simply not comfortable. As far as I could see this hotel has no plans to implement neither a proper wireless internet connectivity nor a good efficient air conditioning system. The massage rooms looks like doctor's office rather than a Spa, this needs to be addressed as well.

Dear utuku67, thank you very much for your comment. We are very sorry that you experienced some inconveniences in our hotel. Please be sure that your suggestions are taken seriously. We are aware of the internet connectivity and we are about to establish a stable wireless connection throughout the whole house. So far we offer internet connections with cable on the rooms, but due to the increasing number of mobile devices, this is of course not helpful to everyone.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2007

First time and a great stay. An hour train ride from Munich, so no need to rent a car. Hotel offers free car service to the train station in Bad Woerishofen, just call 20 min in advance and no problem. We booked 2 rooms, one regular, single room and one comfort room. To be honest a family of 3 adults, and of course if its a teenager size adult:) can stay easily in comfort room. 3 swimming pools, 2 jacuzzi's, 4 aroma steam baths, sauna, solarium (avoid using the new machine, timer on the wall is not working too good, eats too much money for half of the roasting time:)), beauty services, massages galore. Very clean rooms, nice comfy beds. Breakfast is off the bar and the dinners are either off a bar (twice) but most of the time its a set menu, but one has a choice (only in German, but the staff is willing to translate). Drinks, including water are at a cost. People are dressing up for dinner, so jeans and sweats are not the typical attire. One can rent a DVD player, but their is no library of DVD's and its not a region free DVD player so only European code 2 DVD's will play. No news papers in English and only English language channel is CNN. This has nothing to do with me being a native English speaker, plenty of non German speaking guests were their and i'm sure at least something in English to read and besides CNN to see, would have been a welcome sight. Area is gorgeous, good for long walks and refreshing one self. Shopping in the city center will be something else if u want to Get Tax Free. A lady at a shop called HOYER got so [----] mad at us, she refused to make a sale, just because she wanted to keep the price tags to her self, not back on the goods sold to us, as she needed to report her sales to the town, duhhhh. Only 2 shops offered TAX FREE SHOPPING, the rest, well ask them for a form to get TAX BACK, its not really correct, but something to show customs at the airport and DO NOT ALLOW THE PRICE TAGS TO BE CHOPPED OFF. Most of the shops, typical German, made a scene and a deal about it, but left them on. Only and hour away from Munich and Fussen (Neuschwanstein Castle). Great place and enjoy
