We arrived in Verden early in the evening, completely by accident after having gone to Bremen to collect our car after importing it. We approached the town from the west, crossing over the river on Brückstrasse and pulling up in what appeared to be some sort of square where we asked for the nearest hotel. A quick left turn, a few hundred feet drive, and we were there, at the Akzent Hotel. We parked directly in front of the hotel then almost trembled, imagining it would be prohibitively expensive, judging from the lobby and the many travellers so obviously on business. Yes, it was more expensive than your run-of-the-mill hotels, but considering we had just paid 87 euros for a night in an okay hotel, the 120 euros didn't seem too excessive, especially as tired as we were.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, quickly finding us a room, giving us some information on the town, assisting when my laptop didn't immediately lock onto their free wifi in every room and generally going out of their way to ensure that we had a comfortable stay.
Our double room was very nice indeed. Furnished with what looked like cherry wood bed, storage drawers and desk, it had an air of opulence. We were also pleased to see that dressing-gowns and slippers were provided. The beds were wide and comfortable and everything was immaculately clean.
We later dined in their restaurant and enjoyed fresh plaice with a shrimp sauce, nicely presented. In the morning, we were pleased with their ample breakfast buffet and quiet, friendly service.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, even though it is a bit expensive for our budget on a regular basis.
