We stayed at the Steigenberger for a couple of days and found it to be a very comfortable clean and first rate hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the location was absolutely second to none. Situated on (not nearby, or across the road from but actually ON) the edge of the beautiful lake it was delightful looking out onto the lake whilst eating breakfast. Breakfast was a plentiful buffett with a great selection of cold meats, cheese, cereals, breads and hot food such as beans, eggs etc etc. Lovely freshly squeezed juices were available and as much tea or coffee as you wanted. If I was to make a suggestion to the management for improvement, maybe freshly cooking the hot food would be better as after 2 hrs of sitting on a hot plate beans and eggs do become a bit dry (however that maybe a little fussy and there really wasn't anything wrong with the hot food!). Someone mentioned that the hotel was becoming a little tired - well yes maybe that review was accurate but I can assure anyone that of Dec 21st, the hotel was in the process of replacing their carpets as we saw them do this throughout the reception and lobby area and this was probably the only slightly "tired" part we saw - the room we stayed in was certainly not tired or dated - it was very much up to date and spotlessly clean with a marble effect bathroom. We have stayed in many many world class hotels around the world and this compares favourably. I would recommend this hotel and agree that it deserves it's five star rating. The only (and again, maybe I am being too fussy) thing I would say is that the attention to detail that sets other five star hotels apart from this one is a little less - e.g the bath towels are not the lovely big thick egyptian wrap around ones we have experienced elsewhere and the dressing gown and bathroom slippers likewise - not heavy, thick and expensively made. The decorations around the hotel are not opulent and lavish, in fact are quite sparse and minimal - but not sleek and modern - just sparse. BUT that should not in anyway take away from the fact that this hotel is truly up there with the other five star hotels and is a very good hotel worth it's stars. I enjoyed my stay there, would recommend it to anyone - particularly the location as it just over the road from the beautiful old town area - and would definately return again.
