Average 1 bedroom condos. A simple place: no fancy business center, no fitness room, no "heavenly beds", slightly run-down, but a comfortable and functional place to enjoy the outdoors.
We are a family of 4 and stayed in a 1 bedroom unit last winter. It was convenient to have 2 queen beds in the rather large bedroom: although there is no door to the bedroom, people could be playing games/watching TV in the living room, not disturbing anyone who's already asleep in the bedroom. There was a pullout sofa in living room, but it would be ridiculously overcrowded to have 2 more people sleeping in the living room. There is plenty of room to unpack, with several drawers of space per person and a lot of space on 2 clothes racks. No fireplace- so no quick way to dry out those ski mitts. The kitchenette is well equipped, including dishwasher, all kinds of pots, pans, cooking utensils, everything you'd need to cook or bake. There is no dining table, just a short counter with 3 stools- 4 stools would be better, so everyone could eat at the same time, together. The bathroom is basic, small but fine, only enough room for one person at a time. Ski lockers are indoors on the ground floor: convenient.
There is a small hot tub on the roof - one of the days we were there it was out of order, so they gave us a keycard to run over to Chilcoot to use their hot tub. Location is right on the main central pedestrian/skiway in the village center: Ski in, ski out, very convenient to stop off in the condo for lunch. Located above Bugaboos, one of the best bakeries in the Okanagan - great breakfast pastries!
The staff at Vance Creek were all very helpful and friendly (in fact everyone in Silver Star is very friendly ) We keep coming back to Silver Star because the snow is dry, the place is very family-friendly, and both downhill AND cross-country skiing are superb. Our kids actually *prefer* Silver Star to Whistler: less crowded, dry snow, great weather, no long cold windy waits at the lift, no reckless or out of control skiing. This is not a party town, it's a family place. In the evening, there's fabulous outdoor skating on the pond - love it - and tubing, as well as a few organized activities for kids each week (indoor rock-climbing, arts and crafts, Wii, marshmallow roasting at the pond)
Not a bargain, but less expensive than many other places at Silver Star,
