“Very good value but no lift which is a pain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

We stayed here 4-1-11 is was very professional, the restaurant bistro was very good value for money at only 22 euros, good car park and safe for the car, excellent restaurant manager who spoke good English, pool area not very good and a let down as they had functions in there with people so you could not swim, bit disappointing that they all walk around the pool with there shoes on and no facilities, the open fire is fantastic, expensive tea at 5 euros, we had a baby and found the no lift a real pain lugging prams and things up the stairs, we also paid supplement for the child of 15 euros which is a bit steep..... We booked through booking.com and saved about 95 euros rather than through the hotel, it was 150 euros direct with the hotel and 22 euros for breakfast so total 194 for 2, we paid 100 euros with booking. Com including breakfast, I even called the hotel to match it but they said they couldn't :-/ .... Overall stay very good comfortable extremely freindly and welcoming staff....

“Excellent stop off mid-way through France”

We booked this hotel through Brittany Ferries when we booked our ferry tickets as we needed a one night stop before we reached the south of France. It is very conveniently situated, just off the main autoroute and was easy to find. We were very pleased with our choice, smallish room but very comfortable bed, lovely indoor swimming pool and quiet spot to sit outside to recover from the driving, with sunbeds available. They have a lovely garden with swans in the pond, just outside the restaurant. Very good meal and breakfast. Would definitely book it again.

“Go for the four star part!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2010

Due to some Icelandic volcano, we had to return from our Lisbon citytrip to Brussels by rental car. Saintes happened to be on our itinerary, and had the benefit of leaving Bordeaux behind us, so the next day could be started with less traffic density.
At first we were a bit worried finding only 3 star (& less) hotels, but for an overnight that had to do. This hotel was the only one not belonging to some known group of cheap, low-comfort hotels (Formula 1, Campanile, and the like), so we gave it a try.
Our surprise couldn't be greater when during check-in we were given the choice to opt for the three-star or the four-star part. Definitely go for the four star building! Large rooms, beautiful terrace overlooking the ponds & garden, fairly sized inside pool nearby,... The restaurant has a limited menu, but serves an acceptable quality level.
Some minuses though: tables are not covered with linnen, there's no wall or glass separation between the shower and the bedroom, mind the mosquitos (especially during warm evenings & nights - there's a lot of water & nature out there).
But overall, we had a nice and pleasant stay in this hotel, with a lot of potential for business events, La Rochelle & Ile de Ré being not far away, and... make sure to taste some fine Cognac, the local speciality!

“Oasis of calm on route to or from ferry ports”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2010

We stayed overnight here on a marathon journey from the south of Spain to to the Channel ports. Although very close to the main road, the sound of traffic was drowned by birdsong. We had a beautiful room overlooking the enchanting and extensive grounds. it was a haven of tranquillity on a stressful journey. We paid for the lowest price room, but I think they must have upgraded us, judging by the other reviews - our room was on the second floor, was spacious and beautifully furnished. There is a fine indoor swimming pool - just the thing to ease tired muscles! Dinner was good and service was attentive. We had just one complaint: breakfast was vastly overpriced. We were charged €38 (€19 each) for what amounted to a glorified Continental breakfast - no hot dishes. We were the last into the dining room (but well before breakfast officially ended). There was only one waitress, whom we had to go looking for.Every table bore the residue of the last breakfast and the floor was very dirty. We had to clear a table to sit down, and search for cutlery, glasses etc. It was as though we had dined and gone to sleep in one establishment and woken up in another! So, would recommend for dinner and sleep but NOT for breakfast!

“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2008

We have nothing but praise for this Hotel. Having followed the directions provided by Brittany Ferries, we were rather unsure what we would find once we had driven through the commercial centre nearby before turning into the driving and passing a pair of ornate gates into what appeared to be a parkland. We arrived midday Sunday and the car park was quite full. Having been greeted by the very personable lady manager, we were shown to our room. We were rather concerned at its location being next to an (electronically-operated) access door and large staircase, but our fears were entirely unfounded as she opened an outer door to reveal an inner door that opened into the most fascinating room we have ever stayed in! Whilst the walls and matching furnishings were in the french style it beheld a unique quirkiness of its own. The added advantage of the electronically-operated roller shutter door that led to our own personal garden was quite unreal given the quaint old-fashioned styling of the room! Having arrived on a Sunday, we enquired about options for lunch (although the restaurant is open on a Sunday evening). We were shown to a lovely table in the restaurant that was quite busy with local people and spent the next 3 hours enjoying a fabulous Gastronomique lunch together with a couple of extremely palatable bottles of wine. Ok so what if the meal cost more than the accommodation - we were on holiday afterall! After a long walk round the fabulous gardens surrounding a very large pond (including resident ducks and swans), we spent a leisurely time relaxing in the fabulous swimming pool located adjacent to the restaurant and made use of the first class changing area (shampoos and towelling gowns included), We then retired to our room to change before venturing back to the bar/restaurant to check out the evening Bistro menu ! We are very happy to report that the Bistro menu was just as excellent as lunch! Sadly, all good things must come to an end and following a good night's sleep in our very quiet and comfortable room and a pleasant breakfast in the dining area overlooking the garden, we bid goodbye to Relais du Bois St Georges. A hidden gem of a place and we are happy to share our experience,
