I was staying in Alencon for business so the Mercure was a convenient choice. In the past I stayed in a lovely independent, traditional hotel in the centre of town but this closed in 2010. Unfortunately, this now leaves visitors to the area with very little choice of accommodation, hotel-wise, if you need to be close to the centre of town.
However, the hotel is clean and the rooms are average. There is free wifi which is always a plus but the breakfast choice is relatively poor. After all, this is the region of fantastic cheese, cream and yoghurt! I would have preferred to have a choice of camembert or livarot, but instead the cheese on offer was babybel. It's fine for a stop-over or for a one night business trip, but I wouldn't come back for a leisure visit.
