My husband and I stayed at Del Golfo for ten days. We had reserved a sea view room, but when we arrived the hotel upgraded us to the only suite in the entire complex. Everything about the hotel, the beach and Elba was wonderful. The accommodations were spectacular...casual but elegant, with gorgeous colorful tile floors, very comfortable beds, super storage space and great bathrooms and balconies with a super view. We also saw the regular sea view rooms during our stay, which were on the smallish side but very, very nice. If you go, do spend extra for the sea view rooms in the main building -- the view of the beach and the green mountains from the balconies is to die for.
You have a choice of half board with breakfast and dinners. We didn't take the half board, and ate about half the time at the hotel -- which has superb, very high end food -- and the other half at a wonderful more casual restaurant, Lo Zodiaco, a five minute walk away to the town with superb fish.
All in all, Elba is a wonderful island and Del Golfo is someplace special. Perfect for couples of all ages. (Not much of a singles scene.) Elba is so close to the regular Tuscany circuit -- Florence, Siena -- it makes a perfect beach break on the art city tours.
