We spent three nights at Borgo al Cornio while my husband attended a meeting at Monash Centre (walking distance). Antonella was absolutely delightful, helpful, and patient with us as our Italian was very limited. Parking for the rental car was just a block away and no extra charge. Our room, "The Poet," #6, was immacculate- a large wardrobe with drawers in the bottom portion, a writing desk and chair, bedside tables and lamps, and valet for hanging clothes. The bath had two sinks and a tub with hand-held shower. Plenty of towels were supplied. There is no air-conditioning, but opening the shutters during the cool evenings is sufficient. When Antonella serviced our room each day, she closed the shutters, keeping the heat of the day out of the room. Breakfast is served each morning from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. in a very pleasant breakfast room. Each morning there were delicious pastries, fruit, jams/jellies, juice, coffee, and the famous Prato biscotti (from Antonio Mattei on Via Ricasoli). A TV room is available adjacent to the breakfast area, but a wall-mounted TV was also in our room. Borgo al Cornio's location is perfect for touring and shopping in the historical city center. The location is also just a couple blocks from the train station where it is very easy to take the train to Firenze for the day. Throughout our 8 days in Tuscany, our very best meal was in Prato- at Baghino (Via dell'Accademia). The food was memorable and the service, warm. We were so impressed with our first meal there, that we dined there the following evening also. As we said goodbye to Antonella, at the end of our three day stay, we felt that we had experienced true Italian hospitality and had made a new friend. Antonella's graciousness makes her guests feel truly welcomed. The bed and breakfast rate, including parking, is a tremendous value. We highly recommend Borgo al Cornio for its charm, value, warmth, location, and attention to detail.
